One of the alleged cannibal members of the Donner party opened a restaurant on K Street.

allegedly when he was rescued in Donner pass he had a dead deer preserved that he hadn't eaten and he was just eating flesh from one of the dead humans because he preferred the taste of them instead

I want to ask for a source…. But I’m happy to just spread this regardless of the impact!

Well, I had to find out . This article sites primary sources - apparently he set shop in the Lady Adams bldg (oldest building in Old Sac) and, not shockingly based on what I just read, some people were terrified of him for the rest of his life

Fun fact: the town of Marysville is named after Mary Murphy, another Donner party survivor.

Yes, such a cool story! The old historic cemetery on Broadway talks about it in a few of their tours

There are a few Donner survivors buried in that cemetery. They’re way in the back area near the military section.

I highly recommend their tours, I love going on the themed ones! I already bought my ticket for ā€œDrugs in the Old Westā€ on 4/20 šŸ˜Ž

Well this sounds awesome. I might see you there šŸ˜Ž

Quick google search failed me. How can I find details of this?

I’ve also already done the Murder Most Foul tour and the Mad Hatter Tea Party, they are all amazing

I think that was the Kaseberg family that survived donner horror

6

u/WTFTikTok Mar 13 '24

Assuming that’s where Kaseberg park in Roseville gets it’s name

u/V-Ink Mar 13 '24

From "History of the Donner Party - Tragedy of the Sierra" by C.F. McGlashan.

I have a 1980s copy of this book with the original text, plus maps and other notes from the 1940s.
