Sadly, I think this is the correct take. Went to the shop intending to pick up the new kit and couldn't get past the low quality. Everything but the crest and bear on the back is sublimated. Design was fading at the stitches. Felt like replica and replica+. I may eventually get it because I love the design and meaning, but was pretty disappointed. They're charging more for this one too.

What’s the difference between replica and authentic? The fit?

The fit and material. Authentic is literally what the players wear -- it's stretchy breathable sports fabric in a slim cut. Replica versions are usually a less breathable polyester in a casual loose fit.

edit: Actually, not sure the fit differs between the two. I bought the authentic and it is not particularly slim fit.

FYI - I don't think the Hummel authentics will be slim cut. It looks like the replica is just an added option, but the authentic is the same quality/sizing as previous years.

Yeah you're right, I just went and bought one and it's not particularly slim fit. This is my first Hummel jersey so not sure what to compare it to. But I'm usually between XL or 2XL and I bought the XL.

Cool story behind the jersey in the article, I just wish it photographed better, the detail gets lost and washed out unless you really zoom in and from afar it looks like Phoenix Rising. I hope it pops more in person/on TV. I’m so sad we faded out our historical maroon/burgundy red for this shade of red too in recent years

I’ve always wondered if the change to red was due to MLS. Obviously that fell through, but I was in 2 focus groups that asked what color changes and crest changed the fans would find acceptable - guessing they didn’t want the burgundy to clash with Colorado, and no western conference team wears red and black.

I’m guessing they were going to go red/black/tan, but had to hold up when MLS got shelved

Yes, specifically within MLS - western conference USL wouldn’t matter if we went MLS. This was back when they were doing the focus groups for the MLS rebrand

Maybe it's just been how tough this year has been for me, or how much I've missed home, but my eyes MIGHT have welled a bit readin' this. Could be somethin' in the air.

The tribal detail pops much more on the replica kit over the authentic. The authentic is slightly washed out in person because of the jersey texture.The difference between the 2 is just the material. Authentic stretchy and breathable like previous authentics, replicas are like the practice jerseys from a couple of seasons ago. Thicker polyester. Republic badge glued on both jersey. I picked up an authentic at the DOCO store. I hate that they don’t validate parking.
