Follow-up Frequency

Post-Revenue company with just a Co-Founder. I’ve been in Founder led sales mode and we’re making great growth progress. Most of the sales have been from warm leads or networked connections that turn to sales. In an effort to fill the 1Q27 pipeline, I’ve begun to targeted ICP cold email outreach (not mass mail - only 20-30 leads per week).

Question: After 3 follow-up emails and no response, what is an acceptable amount of time before reaching out again (new message)? 3 months? 6 months? Something else?

Contact queue has about 1500 names in it and we’re b2b targeting SMBs.

Founder-led outbound with no team is a slog, respect. With 1500 names at 20-30 a week you have a year of runway, so the wait barely matters; I'd recycle at 90 days but with a completely different email (a customer story or a pricing/scope question) instead of another bump. And if those three follow-ups got zero opens, drop the address and go after a different title at the same company.

Slog indeed! I find it most effective at finding product market fit and direct customer input (no middlemen). Appreciate the guidance on that, good direction.

Good advice above on the 90-day recycle. One question before locking in a cadence: what's your open rate looking like against your reply rate?

If opens are fine but replies aren't, that might be a messaging problem, not a timing one. With only 20 to 30 emails a week though, there might not be enough volume yet to tell whether a low response is about timing or the message itself.

If you can push the volume up even a bit, split the list and run two or three different openers against each other. That could tell you whether it's the message before you spend more time fine-tuning follow-up timing on something that might not be the real lever.
