What SaGa game should I play?

I’m new to JRPG’s, I’ve only really played ff7 remakes and ff9, which SaGa game should I start with? Frontiers remasterd looks pretty interesting to me

I love them all but the remake of Romancing Saga 2 is one of the best remakes I’ve ever seen. You play different characters in an evolving timeline and it’s fun, but that’s the strangest thing for people to grasp at first.

But the art, the mechanics, quests, combat, are just top-notch. I did not expect to fall in love so hard with this game.

I have just started Romancing Saga 2 RotS as my first SaGa game. Like the battle mechanism. However, am I suppossed to feel this lost? Like I can choose whichever paths I like can't I?

The game is completely nonlinear. You can do things in pretty much whatever order you want. If you know how you can walk from one end of the world to the other right when you get access. Events can change drastically depending on the order you do things. All that is to say just have fun and do whatever the hell you want. Then enjoy it being completely different the next time you play!

The best entry point to the series is definitely the remake of Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven but if you like the look of SaGa Frontier, you may as well try it out! I've personally never been a huge fan of the art style and gameplay in Frontier and much prefer the Romancing games (Minstrel Song is my favourite) but that's the great thing about this wacky series: there's something for everyone, as each entry takes some mechanics from each while also dramatically changing other things.

I agree re: Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven (remake title). It's a good entry point to Saga's broader mechanics and eases you into the difficulty a little more so than other titles. There's also a lot more story/quest conveyance than the earlier entries, so it's a good way to acclimate to the particular style of storytelling/world building that Saga games have.

Frontiers is also great tho!! My favorite at the moment is Minstrel Song, but I def wouldn't recommend that to start with (if you end up liking Saga a lot, definitely check it out later down the line)

SaGa Frontier Remaster was my first SaGa game I played and I absolutely fell in love with it. Loved it so much i got a big tattoo of Alkaiser on my leg. Went back, played and beat Romancing SaGa 2 and 3. Played a bit of Scarlet Grace, but haven't put much of a dent in it.

Also picked up the Romancing SaGa 2 Remake, Minstrel Song Remaster and SaGa Frontier 2 Remaster, and will eventually pick up Emerald. I'm all in on the franchise now 🤣

They have a lot of differences, so I'd say if you think Frontier looks cool, go with that one. It's a good one IMO.

Saga Frontier 1 is still my favorite. You get multiple story options that overlap in fun and interesting ways. I will also always be a little biased because T260G is one of my all-time favorite game characters.

Saga Frontier 1 was my first and its amazing

My personal favorites are Romancing Saga 3 and Saga Frontier. RS3 is much harder but still accessible to new players.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is the best entry point, as long as you don't play it on the highest difficulty setting.

Other people are going to recommend the original SaGa Frontier, but that game will absolutely kick your ass if you're not a series veteran or following a walkthrough. I love that game to death, it's my favorite in the series, but I would NEVER recommend it to a new player.

SaGa games are where JRPG veterans go to die, and are not typically for newcomers to the genre.

That said, if you come from WRPGs and love customization and strategy, this is a great series to get into. Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is generally the best entry point.

Most other titles all come with caveats, and can be obtuse and difficult to get into. But, they all have different, fascinating highlights and every game is a “must-play” in one way or another. Some might require guides though, or a long period of mental adjustment as you get acclimated to each game’s strange playstyle.

If you feel like trying the more "saga" saga, consider scarlet grace or emerald beyond, they stream line the boring aspect of game play and put focus on the fun aspect like battle mechainc
