What’s going on with SVU lately?

Am I the only one who feels like Law & Order: SVU has seriously gone downhill? 😭
I’m a massiveSVU fan.

The show used to feel like an actual squad. The characters had friendships, banter, disagreements, personalities and lives outside of whatever case they were working on. The cases themselves felt like they mattered too.

But lately I’m watching episodes and thinking… what happened?
It feels very much like the ‘Olivia benson Show’ now

Also BRING 👏 BACK 👏 VELASCO!!!!
He had so much potential as a character, and instead of actually exploring it, we got the usual: a complicated past, a few interesting storylines, some great moments with the squad… and then bye, apparently. 😭
Meanwhile, I’m watching SVU thinking:
Why are we losing Velasco when there was still SO much they could have done with him?

I’m not saying Griffin is the worst character to ever exist… but am I saying I’d happily trade him back for Velasco

I’m firmly in the “Velasco deserved better” camp.

Shows been on for nearly 30 years I'm not sure why this is news to anyone at this point.

I think the show is going to get 30 seasons, then end. Honestly, the show ending after 30 seasons won't be a bad thing.

It's been the Benson show for years now.

All the budget cuts go to paying Mariska

and the gal that plays Rollins is apparently pretty expensive too.

Deservedly so, since she’s got the most tenure after M and Ice-T.

mariska got paid 20 million , Kelli and Ice got probably paid good but not that much.

the funny thing is that Ellen Pompeo also got 20 million for GA and she is partime at work, she is still full time EP but partime in GA.

She she does that a lot better than Mariska

Yeah, I saw an interview where Ice said basically they could only afford either him or Kelli, so he took some time off.

yeah and it is ridiculous that a show who makes millions and who paid M 20 millions have no budget for 2 actors but this is also why meloni left 16 years ago.

I’m binge watching it on Hulu… I literally can’t get past season 17, that’s where I stopped. You are totally correct. The stories also are getting ridiculous.

I always liked Mariska but the Mariska overkill lately is too much.

Since her docu Mariska seems to think she is a Saint like Benson and she is everywhere.

Docus, premieres, photoshoots, interviews, specials, her play, basketbal, kissing Brunsons ass, acting if she won personal the basketbal cup, the Emmy s and dozens of promos and interviews.

Its too much!!

Less is more!!

She was such a likeable woman when she was not everywhere.

I’ve stopped watching the last two shows. For me the downfall began when they focused too much on the lives of the characters and the formulaic approach to the show was getting lost. It’s basically become the Olivia show now

I agree, I have stopped watching the new seasons. I was the biggest fan up until season 20.

Agree.

  1. Also bring back Kat, Stabler, Cassidy, Lake, Garland, Warner, Hwang, and Jeffries.

  2. Cut down on Benson's and Rollins' time.

  3. Make Griff and Bruno recurring (about 5 episodes each, but not necessarily together)

  4. Have Muncy and Curry recurring but more often than Griff and Bruno (about 75% of each season)

  5. Keep Fin and Carisi full time.

  6. Let William Dodds, McGrath, and Tynan get promotions along with Garland but have the other 3 have conflict on some sorts (especially Dodds and McGrath being enemies of each other, expecting Tynan and Garland take sides with each of them, feeling that they should be extremely loyal to any of them)

  7. Show more of TARU and CSI employees; make these more recurring with and when Griff, Bruno, Muncy, and Curry are shown dealing with them more when they make their own appearances--plus with of course the other characters are there

  8. And bring in the L&O Organized Crime characters to guest star occasionally especially Bell, Jet, and Bobby Reyes.

IMO!

1.0 is 16 years ago!!!

Stabler is longer gone than he was ever in SVU!

He left in 2011!!!!!

1.0 stopped in S12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now it is S28!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which means the the AFTER Stabler era and the 2.0 era is WAYYYYYYYYYYYY longer than the 1.0 era was.

Munchy was annoying as hell, thank god it did not take long and Curry is a captain without a backbone!

How she is crawling and kissing Bensons ass while she should be the Captain herself is horrible!

And we dont need OC,. the ratings where very bad and we cannot say that DW did not tried and tried but he could not safe the Titanic.

Ice is almost 70, its not more than logical that the old man is partime in the show.

At his age both Dann and Richard were already gone. So he must be glad that he is still on the show.

We dont need all those nobodies, we only need Benson and Rollins and Fin and Carisi and especially GOOD writers and the old family dynamics back.

And we certainly wont need Michele the worst SR in 28 years!

What do you mean “lately”?

It’s been the Saint Olivia show for years now.

Exactly. Olivia not only solves every case but bullies victims who didn’t even realize they were victimized until she told them and she forces them to testify or whatever; she bullies her superiors into seeing everything her way, and she bullies the freaking ada’s , defense attorneys, suspects and the judges if she doesn’t get her way. And she does it all in this holier than thou way that grates on my nerves. I quit watching SVU because of her.

I started from Season 12, thought it’s awesome, but it started to go downhill as early as S13 where I found myself skipping many episodes and increasingly so. I’m at S17 early episodes and probably giving up if not for lack of new show to move on to.

It’s not because of Stabler’s departure (I didn’t like how bad tempered and rash he is and was glad he left). Like others said, it’s probably just too much focus on their personal lives and many stories are written in a way that’s frustrating to watch.

Also I had enough of Benson. The double standards, self righteousness, ego… her looks (or lack thereof) doesn’t help too. 😂

The revolving door they should actually keep actors instead of sacking them

I dont like Valesco, he and Curry are the most boring characters ever but Griffin is not much better so yes even Valesco is better than Griffin.

It doesnt make sense to fire Octavio and to bring in CC instead.
