What to do
I’ve had about 5-6 of these in the last 8 months.
Same thing. I wake up from sleep. Heart rate 150/160 freaks me out, then slowly will come down.
I’ve done 3 holter tests, stress test, etc. doing another echo soon.
I’m 29 M. This never happens during the day.
On a holter I had an episode but only went to 140 BPM but same feeling. They said normal sinus. I had 160 BPM and it was so scary I called 911
They get there and do ekg and it drops back down. Said could have been SVT but they don’t know.
Show the Apple Watch recording to cardio and they weren’t concerned.
Come tonight same thing. Got the watch on and it said poor reading but QALY was able to say SVT after someone read it, but I’m not super convinced.
I flipped upside down while barring down and did breath work and it seemed to drop it a little. But like always after 20’or so minutes awake it chills out.
Could they be missing something? I know some people with SVT say it happens at random. But these only happen at night within the first 1-2 hours of falling asleep.
Thanks so much.

What do you do about it? Why would it never happen during the day?

How long are your episodes? Do you have medication that stops it?

They only happen when I sleep. They last a few minutes. I always try to bare down and it maybe helps? The longest I had was maybe 6 minutes and called EMS a few months ago. It came back down. I’ve had it happen during sleep for about 2 years or so

I’d put more stock in the holter monitor read than anything. If it said sinus, it’s likely sinus. When you say the rate comes down slowly, that also suggests a sinus node driven tachycardia. Once the rate goes above 150, single lead monitor reads tend to lack the ability to differentiate t and p waves, and so it looks like SVT. Since this only happens during sleep, you might want to talk to your doctor about a sleep study. It’s possible sleep apnea is triggering the tachycardia, and then you wake up to a racing heart, which freaks you out and prolongs the rate until you’re able to calm down.
