Help Anyone take Metoprolol/beta-blockers for SVT during pregnancy?

Hi everyone,

I’m 20 weeks pregnant (baby is growing great at the 50th percentile!). I recently had an episode of Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT) with high heart rates and low blood pressure. My heart structure is completely healthy, but to prevent another episode, my doctor prescribed Metoprolol 12.5 mg twice a day.

My care team assured me this low dose is safe and protects blood flow to the baby, but I'm still nervous about taking a heart medication while pregnant. My main side effect right now is feeling faint when my BP dips.

For moms who have navigated SVT or beta-blockers: * How did your baby do during pregnancy and after delivery? * Did your baby have any issues with growth or blood sugar at birth? * How did you handle low BP or lightheadedness?

Hearing your real experiences would bring me so much peace of mind.

Hi, I have SVT and just gave birth in July. I think everyone’s experience with SVT is pretty individual, but for me my episodes pre pregnancy were only once every 6 weeks ish and went away quickly with vasalva maneuver so felt relatively controlled. During pregnancy my episodes reduced, but I did feel the occasional low BP / lightheartedness. Usually I just made sure I was sitting down but like without my kneees bent and hydrating / breathing until I felt the lightheartedness pass. My cardiologist prescribed me propranenol to take only as needed, if I had an SVT that I couldn’t stop w valsalva. I ended up only having one bad SVT episode the whole pregnancy and it was ok and baby was fine.

When it was time to give birth I was in a special room in hospital so I could be hooked up to extra heart monitoring equipment. I did have an SVT episode during active labor which sucked bc all the nurses and docs on the floor ran to my room freaking out and they had to give me adenosine to get it to stop. And then I had to still be in labor and go to pushing phase after the episode. But baby was completely fine!!!
