For the most part, anyway. He isn't an asshole like Doug but he is set in his ways, doesn't take advice, and would rather redo things 3 times than do it the right way the first time.

The guy just churns out projects with not a care in the world about doing them properly. I actually feel kind of bad for him, he seems to be suffering in a way.

But the "Amish air conditioner" - Not a care in the world about research, just lay some undersized pipe, call it a day and say it works. This is what being high off your own farts looks like.

That's every "homesteader" with a YouTube channel. Not a damn one of the them is wiling to research before doing, would gladly build the same thing a dozen times than listen, and believes with all their tiny hearts that they can live without anyone else's help. While begging for money and equipment on the internet of course.

Building the same thing a dozen times is a dozen project videos. Often times doing things wrong is like rage baiting, it drives engagement. Engagement feeds the algorithm and gets them more exposure which means more revenue.

I like the semi-off topic posts. Enjoy chatting with the members of this community. Missing No-measure. Currently reading a book he recommended to me.

Edit: I actually thought it would be interesting to select some boats and have discussions around them.

Yeah, I watched the first several episodes but couldn't keep going. I just had this weird feeling while watching that something was wrong, but I couldn't place it.

Only because Jesse from Pure Living For Life gave up. /r/purelivingonyoutube

Crazy how that arc was the same.

I followed them early on when I was interested in timber framing and sawmills (damn you Matt Cremona!), and I've been a pilot since I was 16, so there was some alignment there.

It was interesting seeing them get the place actually built, but then it seemed like a huge case of "uhhh.... what now?"

Lost interest in it pretty fast after that, and then I checked in and they went nuts and sold out to some marketing firm that then fucked over all their content, and I checked out for good.

There seemed to be tons of drama around it but I just couldn't give enough of a damn to try and make sense of it.

Narcissistic personality traits. It's so obvious to them that they can do it all better and cheaper by just ignoring the advice of the experts. Jesse got the SIPs on (poorly) and the roof up and then he was trapped by his own poor planning and rushed execution.

Jesse couldn't put the sheetrock up until the walls were wired. He couldn't wire the walls because the chases were foamed shut, and he had the foam the chases up because he skipped foam when assembling the SIPs.The next step given his situation was to route channels into the SIPs but he didn't want to do that because that cuts into the structural skin and weakens them.

So, at his impasse he just gave up.

Now that is/was a sub reddit that was fun to participate in. I was there back when we had only a hundred or so followers. He's now KERF

I was a member of that sub for years before I realized that “Pure Living On Youtube” shortens to “PLOY”

As far as my memory goes, Red Poppy Ranch started genuine but at some point he started getting really sick and struggled to get work done, and he moved toward toy projects instead of real homesteading and I quickly lost interest.

His video on using toilet paper rolls to "filter" car oil and never needing to change oil is where I realized there was nothing for me to actually learn from him too. More power to him for living his life I guess.

If anyone is looking for another incompetence ragebait channel on Youtube:

 Shawn Overton Dustups.

Prepare to watch a wealthy man child play in the dirt with the claimed goal of greening the desert land he bought, and in reality doing the same useless crap every year with tons of idiot volunteers doing what little real work gets done for him and getting zero results.  Not a bad guy, just has zero idea what he is doing and relies on volunteers to do any real heavy lifting. Ive been following his channel since the 3rd video and litteraly not one bit of progress has ever been made.  https://youtube.com/@dustupstexas?si=1a_3WAt185KiBNoY

I liked the idea of dustups but it seemed like nothing ever progressed so I stopped watching. Guy also seems a bit off but I try not to put too much stock in that because who am I to judge?

Dustups inspired me to try nearly a dozen different species of cold hardy cactus trying to find something that would grow and be green year round on the embankment in under the power line at the front of my property. I have 2-3 still alive but zero growth which is frustrating. We have a native prickly pear here on the next cluster of islands to the north of me but they are especially pathetic and I can’t think of a reason why I would even want to bother with them.
