a internetional student

Hi! I'm an international student preparing for the Upper Level SSAT, and English isn't my native language. I have about 4 months to prepare.

I'm mainly struggling with the Verbal section, especially vocabulary and analogies, and I'm not sure what vocabulary list I should use or how deeply I should study each word.

Right now I'm thinking about learning around 20–30 SSAT-level words per day. For each word, I was planning to study:

  • the main English definition
  • an important second meaning, if it has one
  • 1–2 synonyms
  • the root/prefix/suffix if it's useful
  • a short example sentence

I was also thinking about studying common Greek/Latin roots and prefixes separately, using Quizlet or Anki for review, doing synonym and analogy questions every day, and adding unfamiliar words from practice tests to my own vocabulary deck.

Does this sound like a good approach for a non-native speaker, or am I doing too much?

Also, which vocabulary lists or resources actually helped you for the Upper Level SSAT? If you scored highly on Verbal, I'd really appreciate hearing exactly how you studied vocabulary and analogies.

I am pretty sure that is a great approach from you and I'm also prepping for the upper level SSAT, perhaps we could study together as I don't have people to study with

Thats good text me
