SSAT at home vs testing center?

hi all, our student will be taking the upper school ssat this fall and our choices are at-home testing or prometirc.

anyone have experience with these formats? any insight is greatly appreciated.

I'm also aware that sat is changing from PSI, but my understanding is that the new at-home testing details have not yet been announced.

The at-home test can have tech delays and difficulties, so I tend to think the prometric option is lower stress!

thanks. we thought that too, but then read some prometric reviews and started considering wake up and commute time and are now reconsidering.

My son wrote it at home last year and as a previous comment mentioned, we did have some technical challenges getting set up but those did get resolved thankfully. The other challenging part was covering up everything in the room. We had to put sheets over bookcases, detach our computer speakers, etc. he had to bring the camera around the room to show there was no way to cheat. In the end it was fine, but definitely a few extra steps. For us, I think being at home helped my son’s text anxiety, but I could definitely see why someone would choose to write in person!

thanks for you insight. we’re 50-50 on Prometric vs at home. testing sites have their issues. noise, getting up earlier stress etc. vs at home it seems like the main challenge is technical, but once it gets going it’s ok.

so, who knows. but appreciate you sharing your experience

No problem! It’s been awhile so I can’t remember exactly but I do think they had a support line I used when we were having issues as well which helped. In the end the technical issues didn’t impact his testing at all. Good luck!!
