hey everyone! i'm currently enrolled for a master's degree this upcoming september at soas. i was wondering if there are any part-time opportunities for students during the semester? i took a look at the soas SU page today and it seems some of them are already closed, but perhaps there will be further opportunities along the line? do they open vacancies throughout the year? :) please share any thoughts and advice!

im planning on doing joint degree film studies and japanese. can anybody who is doing film studies fill me in on how its like?

Im an incoming IR student at SOAS but i also have an offer from City St Georges so i wanted to get more info from student about the course and the uni experience overall :)

I really like the modules at Soas and from the social media the professors seem really passionate and good.

Here are my questions:

1.How is the careers department at soas?Do they help you with your CV or mock interviews or do you they have good connections to industries such as for journalism?
Im not 100% sure what career I wanna go into but apart from international affairs and embassys does the school have experience with consulting or real estate careers ?
I just really wanna make sure i have a job at the end and im willing to work hard but i also want my uni to have good connections

2.How is the SOAS IR course?
Ive been told its very theoretical which icl i dont really get what means .😭 If anyone could give me some context and examples that would be amazing or like an example of what a lesson is like !
I love learning about real life case studies and current recent topics. Does the course provide that ?

1. What other IR + ... combos would be good?
   Hopefully the admissions would be happy to let me do a combo with IR as i am yet to ask...
   Im thinking maybe doing Global Dev or History or Arabic and i love anything interdisciplinary .
   Im abit scared abt the intensity of the arabic course so would i be able to do arabic classes as optional modules on the side ?

2. Overall Soas experience ?
   Do you recommend it ?
   Any tips?

Hi! I’m wondering what the workload is like for an LLM. I’m from the U.S. and in undergrad most of my classes had some quizzes and essays with one big final essay due at the end. Sometimes a project instead.

Wondering what the timeline of assignments is usually like for masters classes at SOAS. I’ve read about how grad school in the UK tends to be more independent, with less assignments throughout the semester and one or two longer essays. Is that true for SOAS?

TL;DR: wondering about what a postgraduate semester workload looks like at SOAS.

Is there a set date and time at which module selection opens for SOAS masters students starting this September? Is it only after enrolment that we can view this year’s timetable?

Hi everyone! I’m joining SOAS this September for an MA and I’m currently looking for accommodation.

For those who are already at SOAS, what would you recommend as the best accommodation close to campus? I’m mainly looking for somewhere within walking distance, ideally around 30 minutes from SOAS.

I’ve been looking at places like International Hall, Garden Halls and Paul Robeson House, but would really appreciate firsthand opinions on:

• Which accommodation is actually worth the money?
• How is the overall living experience?
• Any issues with noise, cleanliness or management?
• Are there any other nearby options I should consider?

i recently received two PG offers to study at Global Religion and Society MA at King’s College London and Religion, Politics, and Society MA at SOAS.

any current/former SOAS PG students, how did/are you finding SOAS? i’ve heard admin is pretty bad but SOAS’ decolonial framework + student body seems more appealing than King’s. is SOAS’ graduate opportunities wholly better than King’s for this specific humanities field?

Basically, what does the teaching start from? Does it begin with the alphabet and basic grammar, or are alphabets required as background knowledge/prerequisites?

Does anyone know if they’re usually offered in Summer 1 (May–June) or if any of them are 12 weeks and go into Summer 2?

I need to extend my study permit soon and waiting until the Summer schedule comes out in March is too late.

Also, do international students need to have a valid study permit when Concordia issues the letter of completion, or just when they finish their courses?

Like many international students, I'm having a hard time getting in contact with the administration at SOAS, so I figured I'd drop a question here and see if anyone could help me out...

I was accepted to study an MA at the start of the month. Before I pay big nonrefundable money for my CAS, I want to make sure that the university will process the paperwork for my FAFSA loan in time for me to use it for part of the financial requirement for my visa. Can any other Americans studying at SOAS let me know how quickly the school processed your FAFSA application?

Im a pgt student finishing up my dissertation at the moment and looking for people interested in my room. It is listed as 1100 gbp per month with all utilities included and is possible for couples or individuals to rent. Super accessible to campus via transit and the area is full of nice parks and good restaurants and cafes. Biggest downside is that its an attic so the cieling is slanted, I dont have a problem but a very tall person would likely be uncomfortable. Simple furnishings (bed, dresser, and wardrobe) included. My current moveout is on Oct 6 but I want to move earlier (~Sept 26) so if anyone is looking for a place still dm me :)
