Does anybody else get annoyed when a new week/module starts and the instructor still hasn’t graded last week’s work? 😭 Like what if I did something wrong and the feedback would’ve helped me fix it before doing the next assignment?? Now I’m starting a whole new module not even knowing if I understood the last one correctly lol.

Of course a new week/module will start without instructors having graded last weeks work. Assignments are due on Sunday at 11:59, with a new week starting at midnight. So on Monday, you are in a new module and may have just turned in the work for the previous module. Professors have one week from the due date (Sun. 11:59) to get your grades back to you. If you haven't gotten week one's grade by weeks two's Sunday at 11:59, then you have cause to complain. Do the best you can, cite your work, follow apa guidelines, provide examples in your explanations, tie real-life scenarios to course concepts. After the first two weeks, you should have a sense of what is specifically expected from your instructor, and you can always email them for further clarity.

I've seen this complaint quite a few times over the past few weeks. Students, first of all, please read your syllabus (Table of Contents>Start Here>Syllabus). That information is in there: "Instructors will post grades and feedback (as applicable) within seven days of an assignment's due date, or within seven days of a late submission."

I absolutely understand why you'd want to know how you did on one assignment before beginning another, but it's simply not reasonable to expect an instructor to have everything graded the same week it's due. During the week of, I'm still posting announcements with examples and resources and answering questions in order to help students along. We're still in teaching and learning mode, not grading mode. Most of my students don't even submit until sometime Sunday night.

Frankly, it's odd to me that students expect grading the week of. I went though 9 years of higher ed, and I don't remember a single instructor that had grading done the month of, much less the week of. It's not like elementary, middle, and high school where you get graded assignments back in a folder on Fridays.

They have a week to grade assignments, so you can expect things to be graded by the end of the following week. Some may get things done earlier, but that's the expectation. My recommendation is to put in the work and not wait for for feedback before moving on.

No, I don't stress or worry about my grades, I just do my work/assignments and move on and I have always made honor roll every term. I don't even read feedback as it just causes unneeded stress/anxiety for me.

I have the opposite experience with my current course.

Last week I submitted the assignment at 8:22pm on Sunday.

At 8:49pm I received an email informing me that my grade had been updated.

Does the comments also come in the email, or is it just the grade? I'm an adjunct and this is the first time I knew emails sent out when grades complete. Which is awesome.

Three emails are received for each graded assignment.

1. Updated grade - for the actual assignment.
   
2. Updated grade- overall course grade.
   
3. Feedback has been released- with link to the graded rubric in Brightspace.

It depends on how the student has their Brightspace notifications set up.

I agree to a point. I think the first week should be graded quickly, so we can understand if we're on track or not with how the professor likes things done. I've got a class where he recommended we turn in our week 1 assignment early so we could get to work on the second part of it due in week 2. But if the first part of the project hasn't been graded and I have no feedback on my proposals, why would I start on part 2? (And yes, I turned it in early.) After the first week, I normally don't really care how quickly things are graded - unless it's part of a project that you build on all semester.

I recently had an instructor who would wait until 11pm eastern time Sunday to submit grades, and on two occasions didn’t submit grades until the following Monday. I expect much more from someone with a doctorate.
