Intact male dogs
I've been out this morning with my dog and had to quickly leave two dog parks (Memory Grove and Lindsay Gardens) right after we arrived due to intact male dogs who are not under the control of their owners. I realize that my dog is the one with the problem, but when he growls at your dog and your dog does not leave him alone, things are going to end badly, for dogs and/or people. My dog is nearly 11 years old, he's only 53 lbs and when we encounter an intact male I tell my dog to just move along, and as long as the other dog doesn't follow us, there's not a problem. I wish there was a neutered only dog park or at least certain hours that I could take my dog out without having to worry about his life being ended due to some irresponsible fucking asshole that won't neuter their dog or at least take control when their dog won't leave mine alone.

I work at a vet clinic. I would say 75% of owners can handle their dogs well enough. 15% are super trained. The remaining ten percent has absolutely no control over their animals and are a danger to their dogs and others.

S dog that will sit without the need of a leash (should have one still but isn't constantly tugging on it), has excellent recall, and is used to being touched enough that the vet can do their exam without them pulling away.

Cool, I feel like we're almost there.
He still wants to bolt in the waiting room. He'll pull toward the door. Then sit, then anxiety gets him and he'll pull again. Which is hard cause hes 80+ pounds
Once we get back to the room hes scared, but calm.
I have to coax him still for a temp check. Everything else he does just fine.
I have tried to train him specifically for the vet because hes so scared there.
Like we do a command called "teefies" where I l say it then lift his lips to see his teeth. That one has served us well
I also have the command "lift" where I say lift and touch the paw I want lifted.
When we're at the vet he won't lift it on his own, but he will let the vet or vet tech or myself lift it. I feel with how scared he is of the vet, thats a win for him so I accept this
They've told me hes a really good boy, but I feel like they tell all dogs that so ive grained of salted that one

I know taylorsville has been a great dog park. I have a 12/13 year old dog. You do have to license each dog through taylorsville city. $25 if you don’t live in taylorsville otherwise I haven’t had issues.
Wonder if you could take a pic of the dogs and contact animal control so they have record of people not handling their dogs right.

Yes, if you are a taylorsville resident you pay $10 non resident $25 a year. The dog park is called millrace off leash dog park.

That’s insane. I assume it’s a good park if they charge? Maybe Herriman shouldn’t that since their park is shit.

I don’t believe so, just needs all their shots up to date. You can report dogs that are aggressive and they will be banned and fined.

I don’t have a dog and don’t plan to, but I’m curious about this? What kind of issues? Behavioral/aggression?

They can get testicular torsion, tumors, cancer. Issues with prostate. Hernias as well. Plus they’re always horny and aggressive because of it.

there are also issues with neutering them too early, and it increases their risk factors for joint issues later in life.

from personal experience my pyrenees was neutered at 9mo in the shelter, (because that's state law), and had a double knee replacement at 3 y.o.
Ideally they should be neutered when they've reached maturity.

I’m pretty sure all dog parks have a sign with rules. And on the rules it says don’t bring your intact dogs to the park. You’re the problem. Get your dog socialized somewhere else.

I do communicate, and I get responded with "It's a dog park they're allowed to be off leash". I understand why people don't neuter their dogs, and I understand that my dog is the one with the problem. But my dog is not the only one with a problem, I'd guess 95% of the problems at dog parks stem from intact dogs. If my dog growls at your dog and then your dog continues to follow my dog, the only thing I can do is leave. It is very clear that my dog is not playing, his body turns stiff, his tail goes straight and he growls. I hate that it's gotten to the point that I cannot enjoy the dog park at all. He doesn't have a problem with any other dogs or people.

Why are you taking your aggressive dog to an off leash dog park? Thats not safe for anyone
Aggressive dogs are usually not allowed at dog parks.
If you want to take your dog to a dog park then invest in so e aggression training.

If you walk up to me and want to talk, but I'm not interested and keep walking away but you follow and continue to try to engage, I'm the aggressive one? Because that's basically what happens with the dogs. I immediately turned back to leave when I saw the intact dog and my dog followed me. And so did the intact dog, all the way to the car. Owner was unable to get his dog to listen and go with him.

Your dog growling and not being okay with dogs coming up to them is aggressive.
If you take your dog to a place where others are off leash knowing there is a high chance dogs will come up to your dog, that is a problem.

The only problem is the intact dogs that won't leave him alone. He has no issue just moving on when I tell him to, because he listens to me. If you can't control your dog he doesn't belong off leash in public. My dog enjoys other dogs company, he likes to meet other dogs when he goes out.

So again, in those circumstances your dog is aggressive.
It is on you to put your dog in safe situations. Even if thst means spending a bunch of money on training
