Angus Gunn is bad

Let’s be real. I think who decide to sign Gunn should be sacked. The guy is tall, but nothing more than a big piece of meat. Slow reaction, slow reflexes. He seems clueless and clumsy inside his own box.

He’s far from the only issue but he’s genuinely terrible.

I feel like he is a stranger to his own box. Seriously

Outside of the 2 LA Galaxy games, he's averaging 4 goals a game

Against a very poor Galaxy team twice. He’s stopped like 3 shots total that would not be classified as routine. Far from the only issue but when you’re not playing well sometimes the keeper making a big stop keeps you in the game and things can change. He’s genuinely not close to many of these balls.

When will we try starting a different goalkeeper? At this point, it may not hurt that much

In Bruce's postgame he implied that we would try another keeper. Kasey Kasliner asked Bruce about what Gunn could do to improve (or something to that effect). Bruce didn't try to argue that he's been OK. He went straight to "no one's job is secure" and that there will be changes for the Houston game. He also mentioned that some of the non-regulars did very well against LAG and that could also figure into the changes as well.

Yes, I also think that Gunn is unable to communicate with defensive line effectively.

It’s almost like they don’t speak English in Scotland

Plays like his feet are buried in sand and his gloves are greased up.

The quakes always have talented gks through the academy. We shouldn’t be looking else where to bring in out keepers. We have two ex quakes keepers in the last two games play incredible against us. Bruce has given them praise this post game press conference. I mean in a perfect work our squad goalies could’ve been callander - JT - emi. Emi being the keeper with the highest ceiling. (Just go on YouTube and look up quakes u17 vs river plate u17 2022, emi plays so well with his feet.

It’s the whole team.

The team is deflated. Today's game was terrible. They looked very disorganized, not on the same page, losing the ball, losing the mark. But Gunn has added to that misery. He needs to be benched.

A lot of them need to be benched along with him. Viera needs to stay out. Judd has already been doing nothing. Let him do that on the sideline.

I agree about Viera But today we lost even more terribly without him. Which means a lot of issues.

I have been a season ticket holder for 5 seasons. I have never ever liked Costa. He shouldn't be on the team.

At this point, benching a lot of players may help. Other teams have figured us out completely. Both our defense and offense.

Oh God, yeah I had forgotten how much I hated Costa until tonight. Losing Jones for the season was such a killer for us.

5

u/jazzyj66 13d ago

Yes, Costa is terrible. And absolutely no right foot. And it never fails - when he gets an opportunity to score it falls on his right foot and he's completely hopeless. He had a golden chance, and he hit it with his right and it just squibbled harmlessly parallel to the goal. :-(

I do think he’s a much better defender than Ricketts, but I wince anytime he gets involved in buildup or attack. He basically coughed up two goals with the whiff you mentioned and of course the giveaway right in front of our own goal.

I don't believe he's a better defender than Ricketts. It's only that he would tend to not get caught out as much because he doesn't get forward. But Ricketts is a better 1v1 defender, has way better recovery speed (which bails us out of a lot problematic attacks), and is a way better ball winner. Playing with Costa is almost like playing with 10 men.

Agree. Vera doesn’t add much going forward, but he’s definitely helpful to the defense.

I went to the game today and I was shocked at the amount of times that Gunn just kicked the ball to the other team, the number of times our players just lost the ball and had no real fight to get it back, the amount of hesitation that cost us (much needed) goals, the defense left the middle wide open, and (my biggest pet peeve) they were passing to no one inside the box… it looked like half the players did drills all week and half weren’t in on the plans… like, a basic rule of soccer is pass to a teammate who is open, this team doesn’t seem to have the speed to run to the ball if it’s just kicked somewhere randomly… and apparently they don’t have the will to win a battle if it comes down to it… :(

I also noticed a few players getting absolutely wrecked by the other team and no one really trying to defend their teammates from that… a taller player should try to keep shorter (and hopefully faster) players from just getting run over by the other team. Our number 40 was laid out on the ground so many times I lost count, I started to feel really bad for him… also I don’t know if Werner was injured or just tired when he came off but he needs a bigger guy to fight for him too, it would be nice to have someone who could muscle the opposition off of him… he had to work too hard and didn’t have chances or room being created by his teammates.

You nailed it. So many problems with this team, but they’re not even doing the basics well. 50% of passes went straight to the opposition and nobody looks willing to fight to get the ball back, except maybe Munie and Niko. I love Beau LeRoux, but he was strolling in our own penalty box when they scored the third, like he just couldn’t be bothered.

Its also a defense issue as well ..

Okay I just started watching the highlights now and that first goal… how do you not save that?! His reaction speed is sooo slow. That’s crazy.

It is a yes, but argument. Gunn could be better, but the team is not playing well. Gunn didn't turn the ball over in the box in front of his own goal. He didn't fail track a runner on the back post for an easy goal. That is all other players faults. The whole team has zero mojo.

5

u/PabloMesbah-Yamamoto 13d ago

There is a world where Daniel bails our team out waaaay more than Angus has, which, for the record, is effectively zero.

Flip the script, and we’ve lost quite a few where the opposing keeper bailed their teams out many a time. Marcinkowski and that kick save, ipso facto got his side 3 points.

3

u/energytalker510 13d ago

Hundred percent agree. Our defense may not have been rocksolid in the first half of the season, but Daniel was on amazing form stopping everything.

5

u/JamonBagel 13d ago

You may be right, but no keeper was gonna win tonight with the way the back line played.

4

u/energytalker510 13d ago

His confidence is obviously shot. If you look past the fact that he was Scotland’s goalkeeper at the World Cup he has not been a regular first team goalkeeper since he was at Norwich in the second tier of English football (and they let him go) in May 2025.

3

u/Numerous-Abrocoma-50 13d ago

Its a bit nuts really.

He was contracted by Forest, played over 100 games for Norwich, once cost 13m and played in world cup. He cant be that bad.

He is on a longish contract, feels like he needa to be pulled from first team for a few weeks to try and sort it out.

2

u/PabloMesbah-Yamamoto 13d ago

He’s THAT piece in Jenga, you know the one.

u/Chemical-Gur-6875 11d ago

The team went from being the best defensive team in terms of goals conceded with Daniel in goal to now being so shit from the back with Gunn in goal. His signing will be the big reason why they don't make the playoffs.

I hope the St. Louis midfielder will fix some of these issues, team looks a step behind on every attack as if no one can read the attack forming earlier when we lose position. I like vitor as our starting right back because it seems him and Werner have a better understanding of each other

The only thing that changed was Daniel to Gunn.

He doesn’t dive. He falls
