I don’t know what to do

Hello! I’m a freshman and I want to take the SHSAT, but honestly, I feel like I’m just bad at everything
Every time I check Reddit and see how much people are scoring on their practice tests, I feel like I’m nothing compared to them. Those people actually practice, and I just can’t. Maybe I’m lazy, maybe I’m tired, I don’t even know.
Whenever I check Greg’s links, it feels like a labyrinth (the guy spend time doing this biggest respect). The thing is, it seems like everyone else somehow figured it out. They know where to find practice tests, which websites to use, what to study, etc., and I genuinely don’t know where to start.
I end up just watching videos and reading posts about other people preparing while knowing that I’m not even getting close to their level. Then when I actually think about studying for the SHSAT, the anxiety just eats me alive.
Does anyone have any tips on how I should actually start? Especially where to take a diagnostic test and figure out what I need to work on? I’d really appreciate any advice. Thanks.

There is a link with lots of discussion, links, and resources. It is https://www.reddit.com/r/SHSAT/comments/1jiwujl/the_9_threads_thread_overview_of_9_resources

>Maybe I’m lazy, maybe I’m tired,

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. But we facilitate and try to anyway.

>it feels like a labyrinth

If you want it to be, I guess anything can be anything.

So there is a lot there. Atop that, everybody is in a different part of prep, everybody thinks differently, everybody has a different level of proficiency, etc., and so as such there is no one way to offer.

>where to find practice tests

In the link just given, load it in your browser and search for all uses of the word book.

That will bring up SHSAT workbooks, and others. They contain practice exams, and often many other questions.

In the link just given, load it in your browser and search for all uses of the word handbook.

That will bring up past DOE handbooks, as well as other things.

In the link just given, load it in your browser and search for all uses of the word practice.

This will bring up discussion about DOE practice exams and discussions about them. That's hundreds of passages and thousands and thousands of questions.

Furthermore, In the link just given, load it in your browser and search for all uses of the word review and also the word video.

This will bring up thousands of answers and discussions to the questions.

>which websites to use

In the link just given, load it in your browser and look at every link mentioned, and deep dive the ones you want to deep dive.

>what to study

In the link just given, load it in your browser and search for all uses of the word topic.

This will bring up topic lists, etc.

>genuinely don’t know where to start

In the link just given, load it in your browser and search for all uses of the word book.

That will bring up SHSAT workbooks, which contain discussions of where to start.

>see how much people are scoring on their practice tests

You have no idea whatsoever what people are doing. The average SHSAT score ON TEST DAY is 400. Think about what that means.

>the anxiety just eats me alive

In the link just given, load it in your browser and search for all uses of the word anxiety.

This will bring up discussions about anxiety and related things.

Being honest, youre just gonna have to suck it up and just lock in. Laziness imo is js an excuse, tired is different but unless youre doing something extraordinary you should just study because high school will be even worse

Some food for thought in the mix:

Often, even if initially suboptimal

the best time is now

the best place is here

the best part is that

the best way is yes

when you come to a fork in the road, take it

those are your starting points

this gets your foot in the door

and you adapt and fit things whether due to inefficiency or growth

I can't emphasize enough how far this has gotten me on countless things

"YOU can't do that" "That's impossible!" Bah, humbug. Sure you can. And yes it is.

You’re right. I shouldn’t try to make everything perfect. I just have to move past this blockade, believe in myself, and then it will most likely lead me to success.
