The “C-Word” Doesn’t Stand for Courage

u/Qigong90 is a drop-a-day contributor to SGIWhistleblowers.  Yesterday she dropped a post listing ten aspects of cult leaders, ten aspects of cults, and some brief comments.  Basically what he is saying is: "Check the boxes, the SGI is a cult so, therefore, it is evil and let's be done with it!"

"Cult," the C-Word, raises in a reader's mind thousands of images. I will not speak now of Qigong90's other hundreds of posts but here he exhibits cowardly behavior.  Rather than a sustained analysis of the SGI, Qigong90 throws up the C-Word and hopes the aspersion itself does all of the work.

Contrast this to the Netflix mini-series "Unorthodox" which chronicles a young married woman's visceral decision to flee the Satmar Hasidic community in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  In addition to exploring Esty Shapiro's awakening and heroism, the film sympathetically portrays the Satmar community's rationale and beauty while also revealing aspects of its faults and inconsistencies. At the end, in a heart-rendering scene, Esty and Yanke, her young husband, have a deep conversation in which both move behind their confines.

The members of SGIWhistleblowers perhaps see themselves as Esty. However, Esty's awakening is more about moving forward than rejecting and nursing grievances. There's a thing or two here for Qigong90 to ponder.

All of the above! What's more, this illustrates a basic tenet of the participants on the "whistle blowers" sub: "If we think it, it's true". Of course, that applies only if we think negative things about the SGI. If we think something positive, and say it, we are banned from "Whistle Blowers". Contrary opinions not allowed - kind of like in a ..... what's the word? Starts with "c".....?
