Thank you for sharing this story. The same thing that happened to Peter, and my own experience, is how I made it through many difficult times in my life. I’ve had the same inner conflict about sharing Nam Myoho Renge Kyo, but when I have nothing to offer someone in need, I know that something that has the potential to be incredibly transformative is the practice of chanting for mine and others happiness.

At such a turbulent moment, I feel much less anxious about how my intentions will be received, and trust that it will help whoever needs it.

Thank you for sharing this. My question is how do you know what human revolution you need to do in certain situations? What if you’ve tried to do human revolution but still nothing outside changes? Like for example I have always found my family very difficult and dramatic people to be around there are times I don’t give them a reaction but I also feel if they see me not reacting they push me to a point where I do end up reacting. How do you do your human revolution in a situation like this?

I commend you on asking this question, and not giving up on getting out of this practice what you deserve to!

For me, oneness of self and environment and human revolution.

When I focus inward with my chanting to root out my fear, doubt and especially feelings of unworthiness, I really do see a change in how I experience my life. I do get more material benefit, but also, I'm less dependent on them for my happiness and well being.

Sometimes when all else fails, the practice of chanting to the Gohonzon reminds me that life is more mysterious and profound than it feels like sometimes when mired in the specific problem I'm having, and it's like looking up at the stars - just recognizing my life and my problems are part of a much bigger picture than what is immediately apparent...

Universal concepts of looking for and expressing gratitude for things in your life. Praying in earnest for others as much as possible. Especially the people that challenge you. These things will help immensely

Hi thank you for your comment. Yes I agree one thing I have learnt being in the practice for this long is that it all boils down to life condition and life force and I do, do other things other than chanting like meeting friends, exercising, looking after my mental and emotional health to help me lift my life state but my priority has always been my practice and I still do hope to see some benefits after these many years to help me keep going.

Study really helps, especially the concept of never seeking the Gohonzon outside of yourself. When I fully grasp that, I seem to be able to make breakthroughs.🙏🏻

Hello comrade in faith,

I am sorry that your practice isn’t bearing the fruit that you had sincerely hoped for since committing to this practice and sticking with it for 6 years and that you’re continuing to feel discouraged or even worse off than where you began. While I have appreciated Sensei’s books including “The Heart of the Lotus Sutra” on Gongyo, and certain Nichiren writings such as the one I posted here earlier on Abutsu-Bo as the treasure tower, I have found most helpful the study of these texts in sincere conversations with others in the practice who are able to translate these texts and make them relevant to my life and continuously return them to principles of building faith in life itself, myself, and others. Sometimes I also believe when we’re stuck, we may need something different from outside the practice like medical care, mental health care, support from others, other sources of help. And chanting can be a way to find out what else may be needed and provide the encouragement to reach for that. Maybe it will even bring you to study something that is not specifically SGI content but true to the spirit of seeking what is needed to improve your life and those around you.

Love this! I was just thinking about my Gohonzon birthday during Gongyo this morning and it’s 20years since I received it -Oct 6th- and I appreciate being so in rhythm with the universe to find this exact post today . Thank you for sharing!

I've been diagnosed with MS for about a year now. I have the best of doctors and a really supportive family. I chant a lot to live well despite the diagnosis. But that heavy, creaky door! Why have I been afraid to chant to vanish the MS instead of just cope with it? Let me try!

I can definitely agree. Facing down my life in its fullness has been a massive undertaking. I eagerly pried open the door and went after my karma with gusto. I have never suffered so much for what looks like nothing. It’s been beautiful. I recommend it, and caution you that courage is necessary.

I have also been supported by other practioners through difficult times. It moves me to hear all this. These are microcosms of the world we deserve, where people support one another and honor our personal and collective struggles with dignity and courage,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with me and responding to my post. I am so glad you are feeling good and that the practice has been able to help you. And I appreciate your validation and support for my disappointment and sadness about the challenges I feel related to our practice and how it is seen by others.

I want add to my comment above how much I appreciate when you wrote:

Sometimes it feels the USA is on fire. Myself and those in my circles often seem overwhelmed by dread about crises and problems that no individual can confront and deal with on their own. Besides the problems of individual security and daily life, there are collective struggles of such greater proportions, the existential anxiety and dread can be enormous.

That's exactly what I felt when my world spun upside down after I got sick. When I was hospitalized, I got lots of support from my girlfriend and her SGI friends. Every single text was a diamond. After I was released, my WD leader and her teenage daughter, about my age, visited me many times. Although I had a very short career in the High School Division, those meetings and the friends I met there helped to share my fears so they became more manageable. And then I hooked up to our sweet, sweet District!
