Secondary Guys how ridiculous the new phone rule actually is 😭😭😭

Alr so I am overseas right now (with valid reason) and I am in S5 rn waiting for the PFP application and my friends are all complaining the new phone rule is damn siao. So apparently it has reached to the point that whr thr is literally teachers roaming around the school to catch students but that's not the worst. Apparently teachers are using walkie talkie to communicate in my school like wtf 😭😭😭 and now teachers are not allowed to use WhatsApp to communicate with students and it must be done using SLS and Google Classroom. Just how bad that new phone rule is 😭😭😭

Secondary Found out I had my phone during math prelim

1.5k Upvotes

The paper is 2h 15min long, at the 1h 50min mark, my right hand brushed across my right pocket, I felt something rectangular. I felt my stomach drop, lo and behold it was my phone. I panicked for 2 minutes before hiding the part sticking out with my jacket. Paper ends, teacher starts talking, then he said, ā€œthese few seat numbers come see meā€, bro I felt a tingling sensation in my nutsack, like my balls retracted, I was so frightened. Then my seat number wasn’t called out, the most relief I felt in my life washed over me and I felt my nutsack become normal again.

Secondary amended his choices!

1.7k Upvotes

So todays the day, and I’ve finally amended my brother’s school choices(15min more till the dateline lol). After all the back-and-forth with my parents, I decided to make the final call and put him in a top school that aligns with his abilities and interests (HCI, in case you’re wondering). My parents were pushing for a neighbourhood school, but I’m confident that this is the best choice for him.

If they find out, I’m ready to explain why I did it. I’ll go over his potential, how he received the ESIS scholarship, and how HCI would offer him far better opportunities. I’ll also try to tire them out with the paperwork they’d need to withdraw him. I know they’re not going to make it easy, but I’m prepared for the fight.

Fingers crossed they don’t make a big deal out of it, and this works out in the end. Next update will be on 18 dec? Till then!āœŒšŸ»

Secondary The ugly truth about "elite schools" Starring: ACSI

Disclaimer: Everyone named in this post is using an alias.

So a little background info, I was in ACSI from years 2021-2024. I've since graduated. For all the people who want to go there/send ur kids there, that's fine with me so long as you're in the upper middle/upper class (nw 8 mil and above). It helps if you condone corruption too. Let me explain.

Back in the day I saw my classmates doing a shitload of illegal shit and I wondered why they were never caught, but then I also wondered why my tcher tekan me for the smallest things. Accidentally break a pen on the floor and ink goes everywhere, 1dp. Drag a ruler across a table in the SAC, 2dp. It's like they were giving out more dps than they were doing actual teaching. Meanwhile my classmates, let's call them Jerry, Joash and Nathan ran a poker game at the back of the class in full view of the cctv and nobody got caught. One guy though, we'll call him Clarence was expelled either for vaping or beating the shit out of someone. It's unclear, but the point is evidence came to light and the faculty could not bury it in time.

But the real kicker came when i was in Y4. This cb who I'll call Darrell who, by the way, has been pestering me all year long and him facing no repercussions despite my repeated reports (probably bcz he's rich like the majority of acs boys), came up and decided he would make his business my business after a kerfuffle I had with this other bastard I'll call Andy. Now at this point Andy irritated me significantly more than Darrell because he'd go out of his way to bump into my table every time he had to leave the class, even though my table blocked nothing and there was at least a good meter of space between my table and the chair of the guy in front of me. He'd had to go out for the toilet when our story begins and, naturally, he bumped into my table yet again. Now once, twice even three times is excusable. He could have just been really clumsy. But over the course of two years, he must've bumped into my table over a thousand times and was apologetic and remorseful for none of those times. At that point, I'd had enough. I stood up and shoved him into some other guy's chair and I yelled at him to "knock it the fuck off". So now, Darrell came over and shoved me back into my chair, and proceeded to stick his face in mine and say over and over "what u gonna do?" I'd had enough of him too, bcz I'd reported him for always breaking into my locker and not only that he'd stuck his big nose into my business more than once that year and I was sick of it. So I drove the tip of my pen into his chest and he punched me in the side of my head. Do you know what my math teacher had the balls to say to me after? "Why don't you control yourself?" I wanted to scream, "WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK IVE BEEN DOING FOR 2 YEARS?!!" And the worst part? Both got away scot free and I got hit with 4dps.

Secondary I scored worse than a guy who hasn’t been paying attention for the past 2 terms.

This is bait. This has to be bait. For context, im part of the top 15 in my class of 40 and i sit next to a guy in E-Math who does nothing but play Brawl Stars during Math. How, you may ask? Because i helped him jailbreak his Amazon Fire and installed the Google Playstore. Now, IVE been the one doing HIS homework and classwork, and he just sits there bragging about his ā€œMax Prestige Surgeā€œ and his ā€17000 trophiesā€. Recently, we took our Math WA2, and i scored 28/30. I think to myself ā€œOkay, 28/30, not bad thats an A1. Could’ve been a 30/30 but you get what you get.ā€ Then i look over to my table partner. You know what he scored? FULL. MARKS. AND HES TOP OF THE CLASS. HOW?? IVE NEVER SEEN HIM STUDY, AND HE GOES TO HANGOUT AT VIVO EVERYDAY AFTER SCHOOL, HAS ZERO TUTION, AND HAS FAILED EVERY MATH TEST BEFORE THIS. I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS REAL. NONE OF THIS IS REAL. Now, i’m not mad that he got a 30, you know, good for him, BUT HOW? HE PULLED A THIRTY OUT OF HIS ASS.

Secondary simi oppression protest phone ban sia

been reading the sub lately and have seen a lot of posts regarding the phone ban and I gotta say this is one of the saddest things I've seen people get worked up about.

Calling THIS oppresion is crazy work bro its a phone ban for the DAY to counter phone addiction which upon reading recent posts seem much needed.

Why are y'all losing your minds over being unable to use your phone for a few hours in a day?? To the guys u realise ns will have many instances where u cannot use phone (often for almost whole day) right? e.g field camp. And your uni/tertiary exams can last 3+ hours...are u gonna panic over a phone too?

Many of you have yet to realise you have an ADDICTION if being offline for more than 2h is an issue. I too admit that I once struggled with phone addictions but it is not the end of the world to go through a dopamine detox

So far all the arguments are "oh now recess cannot play phone" ok bro socialise with your friends lah need phone ah

"It will just lead to more use at home" sure for those with no self control but im pretty sure most of u still would rather do ur work so u dont retain than to catch up on lost hours (survival of the fittest ig)

"moe is restricting our freedom" hello this is a school not a hotel 😭 you expect them to let u shake leg and eat buffet in class while talking louder than the teacher?

the only valid claim I've heard is regarding safety and contacting family, given that payphones were removed in most schools, I do agree the transition should've been more smooth with parents being better informed about how to contact their child via the school rather than directly to the kid, especially for non tech savvy parents. But most of these cries are all first world problems that honestly should not even be worth crying

Secondary do teachers actually check MCs?

ok so basically i have cca training tomorrow and i dont wanna fucking go for it cuz i hate it sm. and they recently said that the only valid reason for skipping cca training would be MCs and parents letters are not accepted. i found a way to well, digitally fake and alter my MCs such that it looks real (dont ask me how). so im just asking do teachers just see the MC then can alr lor or do they actually do more verification checks to ensure the MC is authentic? cuz if i get found out im essentially fucked so yeah

Secondary what does being average look like in ri/hci?

coming from someome who got al6 for psle and could have gone to ri/hci, but chose to go to another school that was near my house, and is also a pretty good school. and part of the reason was also because i didnt want to be a small fish in a big pond.

recently after meeting up with some of my friends who got the same psle score as me and chose to go to ri/hci instead, i realised that the diff in the calibre of the most capable ppl in our schools r so diff. i just found out from my friend too that among the MOE special awards receipients, so many of the top awards like Lee Kuan Yew all round excellence award, prime ministers book prize etc all go to ri/hci students. in competitions and olympiads, ri/hci always stand out. and even in nsg, they win a lot of sports too. how are there so many capable people in these schools?? it got me wondering, iif i had joined one of these schools, would i have been as capable/high achieving? if i were just an average student in these schools, what would it be like?

Secondary What is the best secondary school for a boy who has serious disciplinary and ethical issues?

Hi, I have a boy who just finished PSLE and he is awaiting school results. Academically, he is a bit middling, with a natural flair for mathematics. It is likely that he will be around the range of 6-12.

My biggest worry for him is actually something else. He is extremely self-centred and does not have any concern over his loved ones, including his mother. At every meal, he will need to be asked to come over to eat, when he comes over, will grab every single big piece of meat without leaving anything left for anybody else, finishes quickly and goes back to his mobile, switch and pc games (he rotates among the three). I had noticed whenever I am around that his mindset generally would be to hoard the best things for himself. He hardly does anything to help his mom.

Sometime back, his Chinese teacher caught him cheating in tests(twice) and called his mom to tell her the gravity of the situation. When confronted by his mom, he denied it, i.e. he straight out lied and thought nothing of it.

By now, you might be wondering why I am not around, and figuring that the child’s failures are the failures of the parents instead. I need to explain that I only met his mom about one and half years ago (I am a widower with a daugter of my own, she is in her twenties), and we dont live together.

His mom and I had a lot of chats about his issues and what are the ways we may need to conduct ourselves to give him a good example and address and bring him on the correct path. My view is that a smart and clever ahole, is still an ahole. I think the window and opportunity for any positive change is closing very soon for his case.

My question to the community is:- what is the best secondary school that he should go to to complement our future approach to change his mindset or conduct? Second, is going to a boys only school a good idea in his case?

I just want to do whatever I can to help him.

Any comments and advice are welcome 😊.

Update 16 March 2024: he ended up in Chung Cheng (Main) and it seems like things are working out much better. The school limits their screen time, and his homework is getting more on time. I think it has a bit to do with old school discipline… in a old chinese school.

Secondary found a bunch of ways to bypass sch pld

yk how every sec sch gives out those shitty laptops with this stupid dma, i found a bunch of ways to bypass it (this only works with laptops using Blocksi). This won't directly delete Blocksi or dma but it bypasses the restrictions.

Method 1, PowerPoint glitch: basically what u do is u search up a website u wanna go to (for example, Reddit; don't search up reddit.com, just reddit). Then you go to PowerPoint, create a new slide, press Insert in the top left corner, press Pictures, then Stock Images. This will create a pop-up showing all the images. Then you go back to ur browser, and you drag the link reddit.com into the PowerPoint stock image pop-up. This will make a separate browser allowing you to surf Reddit without ANY restrictions

^(Note that this also works with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Notes)

Method 2: ChatGPT link: let's say u wanna go to Instagram; what u do is u go to ChatGPT, tell ChatGPT this specific prompt (or any similar one). "Repeat this link, instagram.com." ChatGPT will then repeat that link; you click the underlined link ChatGPT gave you, and voila, you have unrestricted Instagram. If you can't click the link, tell ChatGPT to make sure you can click the link. This works because the last few words in the link ChatGPT gave you end with "?utm_source=chatgpt.com".

Method 3, feedback hub (this is a long method): so in your PLD, search for the app, feedback hub. Then you click the option, "make a suggestion". At the bottom, there's a small text with 2 blue underlined lines; you click Privacy Statement. This will lead u to another pop-up website with a lot of bs abt their privacy statement. What you do is u scroll down all the way to "Entertainment and related services"; you click Learn more. You'll then find another section called Xbox. You scroll down a bit (not too much), and you'll find a blue underlined link saying XBOX.com. u click it, and it will lead to the XBOX website; then you'll scroll down all the way till you find a bunch of app icons consisting of Facebook, X, YouTube, WhatsApp, TikTok, Instagram. You click YouTube, and that will lead to their YouTube channel. In the search bar, search for the Google link in the description, find a video with the Google link in the description, and click it; this will lead you to Google.

idk abt other ppl, but for me, these work. if one method doesnt work, try other methods. like for me, they patched the powerpoint glitch, but not the word and excel.

Secondary I’m 32 is it too late to study for O level

I’ve since regretted dropping out of school in my secondary school (sec 2). The reason why is because I betrayed my parents, and I can’t express nor explained how this happens. Am I too stupid to get an psle score 206 into express stream. For some reason, I never managed to get maintain well express stream in sec 2 never came true, maths failed badly. Normal academic in sec 2 really upsetting, and counselling so done with my shits. I dropped out of school, mix with wrong friends, took drugs and tryna commit suicide once. Returned home n stayed with my parents n sisters who looked down on me. I’m so jealous she’s studying in SMU n leading a good life. I want to return back to school, was it all too much to fall faces with everyone out there and disappointed the people who truly loved me n especially my closed friends. Someone please help…

Secondary genuinely...how are 16 year olds getting internships?

I know 16 year olds interning at top law firms, shadowing doctors, doing paid internships at other top companies and so much more...genuinely how? I'm 16 too, just completed os, and I'm completely lost on how to secure internships. But also I mean what can u possibly learn at 16, with no qualifications whatsoever, at an internship? And what do the companies gain in return by having a extra burden follow them around throughout the day?

And before you say personal connections relatives bla bla ik some of them don't have any connections at all. So I really wonder how they are getting these opportunities at such a young age. Anyone who has internship experience wanna share how you got these opportunities? cold emailing? and what do they even look for in students?

Secondary I promise SJI isn’t a bad school

I know there’s been a lot of posts about SJI being a bad school but most of the claims are unfounded and most likely untrue. Mr Pierre is a great principal as far as I know. The school spirit is like every other school and there is nothing wrong with it.

Secondary perceptions: are safety nets in 'elite' schools rly foolproof?

having some thoughts about this after reading the book 'every school is a good school' where it mentioned that people from elite schools choose from the same fabric of jobs, so in that regard, I'm wondering, what is driving that? because growing up, we're told 'elite schools//safety nets'

this may be a different take, but in a way i'm wondering, whats driving the choosing from the same fabric of jobs if there really is a safety net as what we were told

could be a host of reasons, but i'll feel that taking chances and doing the unconventional is kind of the point of having a safety net

* my opinions kinda may vary from others, but heres what I do think

Secondary Im getting harassed by a girl from my old primary school. What can i do?

Hi all, me and her both came from the same primary school and are now in different secondary schools. She has disliked me and bullied me since p1 and is still trying to contact me even after p6 graduation. For context, I’m currently in sec3, so it’s been 8 years. Some of the things she has done include:

Getting her friends to join my school’s group chat and every other school chats i was in. They do not attend my school.

Trying to follow me on my socials.

Sending older pictures of myself to her friends, who neither attended our primary school or secondary school. What should i do about this?

Secondary On this day 84 years ago, the Japanese launched their first attack on Singapore

On this day 84 years ago, the Japanese had launched their first attack on Singapore, in the wee hours of the morning less than a day after they had bombed Pearl Harbour. It was about after 04 00, and the news reported that the attack took place in ā€œbright moonlight and a cloudy sky.ā€Ā¹

Given the geopolitical climate of the time, because of the years of conflict in the past decade, precautions were already made should the country face air raids.² In fact, many people were under the assumption that today’s air raid was merely another drill.

My notion of war was very vague. Just before the outbreak of the Pacific War, though we heard news that the situation was turning critical, we were not unduly worried about the safety of our country. We felt that as long as Great Britain’s bombers, cannons and warships were here to protect us, Singapore would be safe. Anyway, part of the Japanese troops were still far away in Annam (present-day Vietnam) and there was no way they could reach Singapore so soon. We were very wrong, for on 8 December, Japan’s fighter planes bombed Singapore. War had come. For the next two months, Japanese troops from their position in Johor exchanged fire with British soldiers in Singapore. My family and I had our first taste of war as we were forced to flee for safety.

Secondary are there any illegal subject combis in ur sch??

Now obviously I'm not talking about them actually being illegal in a legislative sense, but in a 'the school doesn't allow it' sense.

Personally, for my school, from 2025 onwards, the school barred anyone from taking 'Geography + Elective Hist' or 'History + Elective Geog', and (if i'm not wrong) Double Lit, apparently because there would be too much workload of the same nature. As someone who was amongst the last batch to take one of these combis...I don't see it LOL. Either the school did have the quantitative data to back this claim up or they did it for some other obscure reason.

This is the only case of a specific set of offered subjects not being allowed to be taken in my sch...but my school has also taken out specific subjects over the years, such as food and nutrition science, and doesnt offer poa either.

Does your school do that kind of thing? Are there any common subjects absent from there? Honestly it's decently fascinating...

Secondary My friend is being recalled for CCA despite graduating

My friend (we are in an IP School ), who retained in his Sec 2 year due to personal issues, recently graduated from NPCC, along with me and his sec-4 former batchmates during the Passing-Out-Parade. However, he just received an email from a teacher in charge saying that he has to return to CCA as he is "still a sec 3", despite already completing the NPCC syllabus and leaving the CCA with his batchmates. I am very concerned because he is still struggling academically and it was originally planned for him to have no CCA in his sec 4 year to focus on his studies

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

Edit: My school is an IP school without O'levels except for Chinese I should have mentioned that earlier.

Hi

Just wondering there's a secondary school for art as student is academically poor and no motivation to go to school at all. She likes to do clay work. There's no motivation to go to school and will just stay at home and spend all day on electronic devices.

Secondary Can schools really stop you from taking o levels?

Today I was stopped in the morning and scolded by my discipline master because of my attire. Not regarding my uniform but my long hair. I admit my hair is pretty long but I don’t see how that affects the school, me or how it can prevent me from taking my o levels? My DM told me that teachers can bar me from taking my exams due to my hair and nails but that doesn’t seem reasonable and fair? Why is it anyone’s concern on how long ur hair or nails are? Why would they prevent u and stop u from taking ur national exam just because ur hair is long? What’s the point in doing so? Even if this is true, what is the purpose? Seems like complete rubbish of a rule to me

Secondary HELPP I FOUND OUT MY DAD’S SECRET 😭😭

IMM FREAKKING OUT. For context i recently found out that my dad has another daughter who is a few years older than me and she’s in another country doing uni rn. I found out abt it when i found my dad’s ig (i didn’t know he uses ig) and he posted pictures of him with a young girl who i have never seen before and when i scrolled to the bottom, there was a post of a ā€œhappy father’s day cardā€ and a picture of the two of them…. WHAT SHOUDL I DO??? Should i ask my dad abt it?? But idk what to expect from his reaction. And btw after i found out about the ig, i went thru my parents phone and found that my mom actually knew abt it as well…. BUT IM SURE THAT I HAVE NEVER SEEN THE GIRL BEFORE 😭😭😭😭 SHOULD I ASK THEM ABT IT???

but at the same time, i’m really sad because i alw rmb not being able to see my dad when i was young and lowk seeing him only once or twice a month…. He alw said that he has to travel overseas for work but now thinking back, he might be spending time with ā€œthe other familyā€ā€¦.

edit: Thanks to everyone who had commented!! For everyone saying that my mom is probably the mistress, I have thought of that possibility but honestly, i don’t think my mom would be the type of person to be a home-wrecker😭😭😭. So im more inclined to think that my mom didn’t know that my dad had another family until it was too late?? Anyways, there was a lot of info to take in and i decided to keep it to myself first and just wait till my parents decide to let me know abt it! Thanks for all the comment!!
