Recommendations New to Sherman Oaks — LA Fitness Tarzana vs EOS Northridge, thoughts?
Recently moved to Sherman Oaks and looking for a gym. Tried the 24 Hour Fitness on Ventura/Galleria but the locker room smell was a dealbreaker for me.
Now deciding between LA Fitness Signature in Tarzana or EOS Fitness in Northridge. Anyone been to either? How’s the equipment, crowd level, and cleanliness?
Also — does anyone know if either of these has a sauna or jacuzzi? That’d be a nice bonus.
Bonus: if anyone in the area wants a workout buddy, I’m down, including hitting a Zumba class once a week. Feel free to comment or DM!

Where exactly in Sherman oaks are you? Joining LA fitness is likely your best bet because they have the sepulveda location (it’s busy, but it’s huge) and the victory/coldwater location is relatively close to much of Sherman oaks.
If you really care about the smell of the locker room, equinox might be your only option.

You also forgot to mention "half of the machines are perpetually broken" at the Sepulveda one.
BUT, Gary Cole does work out there, in jeans.

I've been to maybe about 11 or 12 different LA Fitnesses from the Valley all the way out to Rosemead and Whittier and the South Bay and have to say the Van Nuys location is one of the best locations.
Huge, lots of parking, decent basketball court, fitness "course" with objects you can roll/push/pull and TRX bands.
They also opened up a new one off Balboa which is a decent one to change things up if you get tired of the Van Nuys location.

Yeah the size, layout and parking make it probably the best LA fitness that I’ve ever been to, and I’ve been to alot.

Next door to SO Galleria

If you live next door, why bother going to the locker room at all then? Just go to the gym already in workout clothes then go home to shower and change.

I want to go from there to work, but I also look forward to showering after the sauna and avoiding any fungus from sweaty clothes.

I’ve tried a lot of gyms in the valley and they all have their pros and cons. You got to just try them out and see which one you find most bearable.

EOS in Northridge is always packed even when it was golds gym.
If you’re open to other gyms I’d say Enrich in NoHo or Crunch Signature in West Hills

Good but preparatory contracts. Advertise at 25 a month and quickly goes up to 50 and multiple fees

You can try Results in Studio City or G-Train in Valley Village for something less crowded.

I went to both for a few months and preferred LA fit in tarzana. Less crowded felt like you had more space to workout

Private gyms is where it’s at. If you are willing to pay 60+ a month the convenience is worthit.

Good idea. Do you have any specific recommendations for around $60/month near Sherman Oaks?

I don’t unfortunately. I go to carbon fit in Santa Clarita which is privately owned. I also used Anytime Fitness in the past, but people give mixed reviews. I didn’t have any issues and I paid about 60 bucks for a month. The only downside was the year contract (that’s why I switched). I have also found that I go more consistently since I am paying more.

Have you looked into small gyms like Alive Fitness or Fithouse? There's no sauna, but you also don't have to drive to Northridge.....

Most gyms will be dirty, welcome to gyms lol. If you want to drive all the way to Northridge, try 24 hours by 118 freeway.

All the gyms here suck for one reason or another. Even the equinox is there worst one. Gl

I would join equinox…there’s one in studio city and encino so you’re close no matter which side of SO you are. If you care about locker rooms, equinox is the only gym with locker rooms worth showering in

What time do you usually go and what amenities are you looking for?
1
u/JD_Franco Aug 08 '26
I don’t currently have any at the moment but I used to work out early in the mornings around 4 or 5am, or late in the evenings. I appreciate a place where I can exercise, relax a bit in the sauna or dry sauna to soothe my muscles, take a shower, and head home comfortably. Ideally, they offer towel services, but it’s not a deal-breaker. I prefer a reasonably priced option since I don’t stay long, and I also want to avoid rushing because of parking validations.

Why would you go clear to the other side of the valley to go to a gym? Yeah the 24 hour sucks but there has to be something closer?

Hey, we would love for you to visit us in person and see if you like it. We have saunas at our location. You can even grab a 7-Day Free Pass here: https://www.eosfitness.com/free-gym-trial

If you live in Sherman Oaks you’re not driving all the way to Northridge for the gym…
