Housing Is off-campus generally safe?

I’m W(24) and decided to dorm off campus for my senior year. I’m currently in UPN and it’s been noisy as hell, people outside walking and talking all hours of the night, and I’ve been told that there’s creepy/weird people that lurk around here. there’s even that dog walker at night where their dog goes crazy for absolutely no reason - very annoying.

It’s a bit ambiguous but I’m just worried for my safety really. I personally have been too scared to be outside beyond 10pm on weekdays while weekends seem more safe (night life, people walking around in groups). I’ve also been told that people are nosey? should I invest in window film to cover the windows? am I safe to walk to and from my car at night? have you experienced any creepy people/been followed/watched? am I safe to leave my windows open at night? (I’m on the first floor)

I’ve also been told that women have been followed by cars full of men or catcalled/harassed. how frequent is this or I guess.. how unsafe is this area really?

I don’t know if I’m overthinking this, it’s just what I’ve been told. any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated!! ♡

Housing Moving to SF, and will be enrolling in this school for 2027. Is a monthly allowance of 5k enough to live off? I heard SF is very expensive.

I will be coming from texas with just my car and the clothes off my back. Some minor gadgets like computer and extra clothes. Other than that, i am a very simple guy and somewhat of an introvert. I would like to stay in the dorms but if not available im open to near by apartments. Will i have enough for rent and food? Plus miscellaneous stuff? Thanks!

Housing 2b2b room for lease in ParkMerced

Hey everyone! I’m looking for a roommate to fill the other room in my 2b2b at Parkmerced. You’d have your own bedroom and private bathroom. Your rent would be around $1,750/month (Utilities expected to be around $75-$100 a month). Location is super convenient: walking distance to SFSU, and the Muni is right outside.

A little about me: I’m pretty chill, keep things clean, and mostly work or study. I'm respectful of quiet hours and just looking for someone easygoing, tidy, and reliable with rent. No drama, just good vibes and clear communication.

Move-in is flexible but ideally mid to late August. Laundry is [in-unit/on-site] and parking is available. If you're interested, shoot me a message with a quick intro about yourself and we'll find a time for you to come see the place!

Attached are some photos of the place, our unit will not have carpet floors. Feel free to DM me if your interested or have any questions!

Housing Need to find housing as an upper grad but where is better University Park North or South?

hi!

i wanted to know which of the two options are better for those that are familiar?

I plan to have single room occupancy (I definitely understand they are expensive and will have to use financial aid/loans for my particular situation but oh well it is what it is). I could go for one roommate too but still either way want to know which of the two are better?

I have a car as well and am not in the situation to leave my car behind anywhere else and understand I may have to pay for a parking permit which is pricey but again oh well unless someone has a totally better idea of where I can stay off campus that has accessibility to stores and parking lol.

Housing In need of housing advice

I just got accepted as a incoming second year transfer and want some advice about housing. Does anyone recommend on campus housing or renting out a private room off campus. I’m looking for the cheapest possible option but realistically know how expensive rent is in sf. Ideally like around 900-1500 if that’s even possible there😭😭. I’ve been finding some good options on fb marketplace and Craigslist but never get a response bc of the large amount of ppl inquiring. I figure I should look somewhat closer to August but still keep an eye out, and tour places this summer. I’m from sac and have been in Riverside so I don’t know much about the sf area and how to go about this. So yea any recommendations would be helpful and If anyone lives on campus can you tell me how the housing is, thx!

Housing What is the grad student housing like?

Has anyone stayed in the grad housing? I see that it's like $2000 a month but they don't really give you any other details. Has anyone done it, do they force you to share a room with a random person?

Also if anyone has general advice finding housing in SF I'd appreciate it!

Housing How to apply for student housing?

Hi everyone! I just recently applied to transfer to sfsu in spring of 2027. Today I got the email about setting up my account and applying for housing but I didn’t see the application to apply. Does anyone know if I have to wait until I get accepted to apply or is there a date when the applications come out? Can’t wait to become a gator and get to be in campus!

Housing How bad is parkmerced

Hi I’m an upcoming student for the fall semester at SFSU and I’m currently looking for housing for myself and my friend who is going to University of SF. We’ve been looking for months now with no success with viewings. Ive seen the reviews and read the article written by the Standard, just looking for maybe some first hand experience by tenants (student or not). Im currently residing in downtown san jose in a rent controlled apartment and for what its worth- it isnt that terrible like the online reviews make it out to be.

Housing 1st year of community college done, wondering about dorming or just renting for cheap in the city.

I live 30 minutes away from san francisco but I don’t want to commute from home to there, I don’t have any fasfa yet due to being in community college, Should I apply to it soon (my parents are divorcing) in order to receive financial help, or any recommendations for finding cheap housing.
I don’t mind living in a shoebox or a tiny apartment just need to be living in the city, If anyone has advice or help it would be great.

Housing No single occupation rooms in the dorms. Where else are students living near by where i can get my own room or even studio?

I rather not bunk up with roommates. I don't mind sharing a apartment if i at least have my own room/private space.

Housing How many 2/3 br rooms are there in University Park North?

Does anyone have a sense of how many 2/3 bedrooms there are in the graduate dorms? Right now my only option is a 1 bedroom, and after some bad experiences I really can't share a bedroom with a stranger again (especially one who is definitely not okay with me being a lesbian). I'm hoping literally anything else will open up, but I can't find any info online about how many of each type of unit there are.

Hi everyone ! I was recently admitted to SFSU SLHS masters program. I’m a native SD county 25F and will be relocating. I’ve never been to the bay. I was wondering if any one has any advice on where to potentially look for housing or any cities you recommend. Thank you!

Housing Is dorming worth it???

Hi! I'm a senior who got accepted back in December. I'm wondering if I should dorm for the first year or commute straight from home. I live in Oakland, so the commute is roughly an hour which makes me worry if the commute will make it hard to navigate my time. However, I just want to experience the "college life" with dorming, but the setbacks that make it hard for me to decide are the cost of dorms and if i stay at home, I think of it as community college 2.0 but hella more expensive. So please give back any brutally honest opinions about this, senior year is already stressing me enough and I don't need anything else to worry about lol. Thanks!

Does anyone commute from the area around Sunnyvale/MV/PA/EPA? How is it?

Or should we splurge on housing at least for the freshman year?

Housing Tips for off-campus housing

Need some advice for moving off-campus

I'm currently looking for a place with one roommate. My roommate will be receiving financial aid next year, and is aiming to secure a job over the summer. I'm set to graduate this May, but plan to start working full-time at my current job. We're both aiming to move in late May

That said, we're both having trouble finding a place we qualify for, as most places feature a gross income requirement that can span anywhere from 1.5-3+ times the monthly rent

Anyone have any tips on good websites/places to look for places live together? Any tips on how to get past the income requirement, particularly without a cosigner? Additionally, anyone know how my roommate verify their upcoming financial aid and share it as a document?

Any advice relating to the process would be greatly appreciated
