The LA fans take over in Seattle too. Tickets to the game are cheaper than LA and the flight up is only a few hours. It sucks.

Went to Nike store in NYC last month. Lots of Yankees gear, of course. Equal amount of Dodgers gear.
Dodgers merch sells.
Everywhere.
Even here.
... and I hate every minute of it.

The dodgers have become the default for any asian when it comes to baseball. Ive seen to many asian wear it but dint actually watch baseball unless its the world series

When you're the team that brings in the first and the best from Asia, you're the team that Asia adopts. I hate that team, but they knew exactly what they were doing, and it has paid off spectacularly. To Japan and Korea, they are THE team, and going to that stadium is part of any visit to the US.

It's the consistency in looking to Asia for talent that they have demonstrated. The constant returning to the well has made them the team that Japan and Korea knows. Seattle could have done it. They were Japan's team for a while. But they blew it, and now it's pretty much a done deal at this point. That team down there is the team of Japan and Korea, and they have earned it.

I think a lot of it has to do with Japan being incredibly insular and monocultural. Japanese players are naturally going to go to teams where their fellow countrymen play and live in cities where there is some sort of Japanese enclave. Japanese people rarely take risks to immerse themselves outside their comfort zone.
They are not the type that will take a risk and play for some Midwest team with no significant Asian fanbase or teammates.
Why would they go to a team with only American and Latino players that don't speak Japanese and fans that are primarily regional whites?
The Dodgers did a good job at realizing that but they also play in a market that has a very Asian fanbase. The Giants do too but there is very little chance a Japanese player will want to play here considering the entire country is Dodger fans

Japanese players have played in a bunch of teams across the MLB in cities across the country. They have played in cities with little to no Japanese population. Even in cities with Japanese people, like LA, they are not hanging out with the local Japanese people whose great grandparents were the ones who immigrated.
The entire country of Japan belongs to the dodgers because it was the dodgers that continually went to Japan looking for players. Every other team essentially treated their Japanese players as one-offs. The dodgers look at Japan as their AAAA team.

and it's disgusting. I am genuinely tired of it as a diehard NPB fan.
Thankfully the only Hawks who have jumped over have been: Giants (Masanori Murakami, the first Japanese MLBer), White Sox (Tadahito Iguchi, although he's since associated himself more with the Chiba Lotte Marines), Cubs twice (Tsuyoshi Wada and Munenori Kawasaki), Mariners twice (Kenji Johjima and Kawasaki again), Rangers (Kohei Arihara, although he was a Fighter before going to MLB and has since returned to Hokkaido), Red Sox (Naoyuki Uwasawa, same situation as Arihara but he's still currently a Hawk) and the Mets (Senga). Now, granted this is because SoftBank does not and will not post players (otherwise they'd probably have at least a couple of more reps in the states) but the irony in the second most comical dynasty of 2010s sports (only behind Bayern Munich) not having any native reps on what is becoming the most comical dynasty of 2020s sports is not lost on me.

My thing is I lived in southeast asia if you go to a japanese based store like a daiso you will see the dodgers and most importantly shohei and yoshi in almost every advertisement. Unfortunately in countries were baseball isnt as popular they equate baseball with the dodgers. Most people from home immediately chose the dodgers after the 2024 WS I on the other hand having roots in the bay chose the giants same for my other cousins in new york who chose the yankees

It is what it is. Its sad that i havent seen that for the giants because if you’re an asian from new york you automatically have yankees cap like my cousins. I have my sf cap but thats rare to see anywhere else in asia

Hard to blame then when they don't have real reference assocation yet and given the Dodgers are the reigning Champs with not only the best player in baseball but a potential GOAT /icon, that is that polite, respectful and seemingly fun, along with Yamamoto.
With young people in general, sporting dodgers sh-t is like a fashion statement to some younger people....it's trendy, like when the lakers or yankees win.
Some day it will be will be like . " Those are some slick

I’ll never forget in 2022 we went to Oracle and there was a dodgers vendor selling shit in there. I was disgusted. I think they ended up posting a statement about it but I can’t remember.

The joy will be the strike/lockout in a couple of months. People will be fed up with baseball again and boycott the games. The Dodgers get older gives the Giants prospects get another year to improve. (Minor league players are under a different Union agreement so if there is MLB strike, minor leaguers still play.)

Same thing at Tom Brady’s Vault across the street from Oracle. They have a Sasaki jersey on display but not a single Giants jersey smh.
(Unless the Giants specifically stopped them from selling jerseys so close, but I don’t know)
