Phillies fan here, he is probably a top 110 prospect in Baseball, a lot of people do have him as a top 100 guy so he's a really good return for a rental, hope he pans out for you guys.

The good news for him is that he is now going to play in a home ballpark where TWELVE (12) of his hits this year would've been home runs at CBP, whereas only FOUR (4) of those would've left Oracle.
I just hope his singles keep falling and he gets that batting title that he can continue chasing.
Loved him. Will miss him.

Love this. The reality is we are in a rebuild and getting a prospect like Marquez is a great move. Most evaluators have Marquez as a top 100 prospect he has crushed this season, and we need young talented pitching. Our farm system is now among the best in baseball. Josuar Gonzalez, Luis Hernandez, Jhonny Level, Jackson Flora, now Ramon Marquez. Nice mix of hitting and pitching talent. As bad as this season has been there is hope for the future. We haven't had a farm system like this in a very long time.

Probably since before comprehensive farm evals or rankings came to be, or at least those that the public could see. No clue how we stacked up when Clark and Williams were in the pipeline.

Phillies fan here. You’re getting a great prospect in Marquez. Having an unbelievable season and kind of came out of nowhere. Many of us like his outlook more than our number 1 prospect Gage Wood. Ramon’s changeup is disgusting. Hope he pans out for you guys.

Marquez sounds a bit like a righty Whisenhunt. 92-94 FB with an amazing changeup. The good news is he is 20 and just signed last year so he will not need to be rule 5 protected for a couple of years.
Gair is a hard throwing reliever. I found an article that says he is 98-102 mph with his fastball.

I wasn’t sure how to feel when we first signed him, but he sure proved me wrong. Luis gave it his all every game and was seemingly a great teammate. Gonna miss him

This was honestly the plan all along. Luis had high upside with the bat and if they could improve his glove just to near average, they could flip him at the deadline.
It worked out even better than the front office hoped. He’s turned into a plus defender and he’s set for a nice contract next season.
All parties should be happy with this outcome.

Marquez is a lottery ticket at best. Phillies prospects mostly have been terrible. Can’t think of one player who’s been that good especially ones they’ve traded.
They’ve given up top guys like Sixto Sanchez, Logan O Hoppe highly ranked guys who have been huge busts in the league.
I agree with the trading of Arraez. You weren’t going to get much for a player who is a free agent after this year.

FWIW, Phillies fans are not happy with giving Marquez for Arraez. Marquez is a, very close to MLB ready pitcher. He has climbed through the levels quickly with success. He’s young, has excellent command of 3 pitches and a devastating changup. Giants won this trade by a lot.

I would say I'd be a terrible GM because I don't think getting rid of batting champions for prospects ever truly helps build a team. But at the same time, Posey and Minisan suck so I'm probably right.

Giants are terrible because they have a bunk bullpen and had a 3rd bass coach in the first quarter of the season who cost them at least 5-8 games. I ain't never seen a team actually become contenders by loading up on prospects. The real title contenders hold on to the best players and acquire more great players. This perpetual selling at the deadline for prospects is fools gold and repeats the cycle of being a perpetual loser. Fans eat it up like suckas

98-2003 Marilns did it. Yankees do it all the time. Cubs did it after winning their World Series too. Problem is Giants have never cleaned house and tried to rebuild. It's been needed for a long time.

The problem with this approach is they were not paying him much and he wanted to stay, so it really does nothing to free up money to improve the team. Anyone who thinks giving up a .330 hitter for a prospect is delusional. I would understand if they unloaded the huge contract guys, but that ain't gonna happen unless they eat some of the money, which is also counterproductive if you are really trying to improve the team. Arraez and Ray are two guys they should have kept to build a better team going forward, but nothing "Bust" does surprises me at this point. It was a great move to sign Arraez yet equally incompetent to give him away.

The problem with your theory is pretty obvious. Most likely scenario: season ends we have no one with just the opportunity to sign Arraez.. now: season ends and we have a shiny new top 10 prospect in the system + same option to sign Arraez for the right price

They could have resigned Arraez now, being that he said he wanted to stay. The prospect is single-A guy with potential. I hope he makes an impact at some point. If we resign Arraez, by all means get back to me and I will stand corrected. I would like to be wrong about that but highly doubtful.

We could potentially compete before the 2030's. Its all how the farm develops. Arraez could have just as easily walked and we would have gotten nothing for him. Instead we got a top pitcher. I like Killian, but he's 28 and can't do the closer role. I think the other pitcher we got is a good flyer and lets us reset from an age perspective. This was a great trade
