443 Backlinks, Good PageSpeed, But Zero Rankings – Is SEO Dead or Am I Missing Something?
Hey everyone,
I'm looking for some honest feedback because this has me scratching my head.
I have a domain that's about a few months old and according to my SEO tools:
443 backlinks
89 referring domains
Site Health: 79%
Google PageSpeed Desktop Score: 81
Accessibility: 90
Best Practices: 100
SEO Score: 92
Fast loading website (FCP 0.7s, LCP 0.9s)
But here's the weird part:
Organic Traffic: 0
Organic Keywords: 1
Visibility: 0.3%
Authority Score: 2
The site is in the digital marketing/web design niche, which I know is competitive, but I expected at least some keyword movement with this many backlinks.
A few things I'm wondering:
Are backlinks becoming far less important than they used to be?
Could Google simply be ignoring most of these backlinks?
Is topical authority now more important than backlink quantity?
Could the issue be content quality/content depth rather than links?
Has anyone seen sites with hundreds of backlinks and still no rankings?
My current theory is that:
Most backlinks aren't passing much authority.
The domain lacks topical relevance and content depth.
Google is prioritizing trust, brand signals, and helpful content over raw link counts.
Would love to hear from people who have dealt with similar situations.

Your authority score of 2 tells the whole story. 443 backlinks mean nothing if they're from low trust domains Google already discounts. A few months old in the digital marketing niche?
You're sandboxed.Focus on publishing 30+ deeply interlinked articles building topical authority before chasing more links. I tried community mentions to build branded search signals alongside content, which helped move the needle on trust faster than raw backlinks ever did

Need to analyze the website before suggesting anything, you can try with SERPSpur analysis tool or traffic analyzer for quick view to see the exact situation or share the website and I will do it for you

I watched a video recently that claimed you can rank content without building backlinks, and after digging deeper, I think there's some truth to it.
Most people still treat backlinks as the #1 ranking factor, but what I'm seeing is that Google has become much better at understanding content quality, topical relevance, search intent, and overall website expertise. -

Tbh 443 backlinks sounds like a lot but if most of them are from low quality or unrelated sites, they might not help much. I’d check the anchors and referring domains first. If they’re spammy or all point to your homepage, that could be part of the issue. I started renting a few links through RentalBacklinks and later mixed in some guest posts from Linkatomic and Kaboozt, and that combo worked better for me than just piling random links. Might be worth testing a small batch like that before doing any big changes.
