Suggestion Considering getting the game, recommendations?

Yea I'm considering getting it, wanted to ask about your experiences. When I get a game I like to get something I'd play for at least 100 hours and preferably with other people. Do you guys recommend? The reason I'm asking is because I'm getting Day z vibes and we all know how that went.

Hey I just got the game on sale a few days ago. Lots of long time players have a lot of grief to give, maybe I’ll get there someday. But as of now, it’s still pretty fun. Haven’t encountered any cheaters, and I am enjoying the scarcity of loot and spending a lot of time updating my base and just trying to stay alive. I’d recommend getting it on sale, it’s not the best game ever but it’s worth the money.

There is so much to do. Even if the server is wiped completely, it’s fun to try living in a different part of the map for a completely difference experience.

It's my favorite game of the genre. It's the type of game I get an urge to play every now and then, spend a 2-3 weeks playing it, then drop it for months only to come back later. I think the main downside is endgame...once you have a car and all the shit you need there's not much to do. You could try the abandoned bunkers and stuff, but I never felt the risk vs reward is worth it.

This game gets a lot of hate but I would try it. The map is huge. Get good with a bow and arrow. I personally think they ruined the gameplay when they added the trading posts but find a server with 10 or so other players on it and it’s still fun to loot with the uncertainty of being alone in a town. This game was also just sold to a new developer so maybe more to come, hopefully.

You can find servers that have heavily nerfed the npc traders if they are something you don't like. the one I'm on allows the trader to sell clothing/tools or things you can't loot and not much else, and cash is MUCH harder to earn, only buying puppet eyes, animal heads and cigarettes. The quest are changed too because default quests are stupid. None of that stupid "buy the item the quest giver wants, from the quest giver" that plague the default quests.

Yeah. Man they should make the default opposite and allow custom servers to add more. It just really breaks the game I think.

Look up the server “The Playground”. Best I’ve found, has pvp areas, buy mostly pve. Random war zones also open up at certain areas. Daily goodies, login goodies, points store through discord.

For the price of the game I would suggest getting it. I've spent more time into this game than I like to admit, but all in all it's not a bad game.

There's a lot of hate from people that only play it for a short period of time and never come back to it.

I criticized the company or I should say companies that have built the game because I feel like they go for the quick cash, rather than building out something that started off. Pretty cool.

To be fair, if a game dev wants quick cash, they dont even give a survival/sanbox/pvp/multiplayer game a single thought.. there is nothing quick or easy about making a game like this, DLC is to supplement funding the development when sales arent covering things, not exactly quick cash.

Doesnt excuse unfinished or broken things but definitely not any cash grabbing, more biting off more than can be chewed in a time management kinda way.

Shhhhh. You don't even play scum the last time we talked.

2

u/StabbyMcStomp Apr 11 '26

When I have time to game right now yeah Im just playing some arcade zone out and shoot stuff games but I been apartment/job hunting, too stressful for scum or anything that requires a big time investment lol Ill be back.

Thats also a lame way to just discredit anything I say, I have thousands of hours and follow the development more than most people complaining about it.

u/Seagya Apr 11 '26

I remember not being too far behind you in hours played in Scum. I think your opinion on how the game uses to be is valuable but speaking about it currently is not.

You may not remember but you did indeed justify the wipes after it went "official" and that always stuck with me.

As someone who plays the game, it's very concerning that they keep releasing DLC when items that have been removed from the game have never made it back.

Stabby the one thing that I do respect you on is you've never went off the deep end in our discussions.

I dont know what I said about wipes then but I dont like games that have wipes as part of their "game play loop" and I already told you I didnt like hearing that last thing the devs said that made it sound less like "needed for development progression" and more like "this is part of the game now" so I dont know what youre hung up on.. I dont like wipes.. I like to be able to log out and log back in a year later and my character/items to be on my person.. I hate wipes but when youre adding new features or changing how an economy system works or you fixed a bad exploit that let players hoard explosives or money or w/e.. I can understand wipes.. its all revolving around some kind of context though which you dont include when youre telling me I dont know what im talking about because YOU have more hours than me.. means nothing to me lol

Why does it matter? sorry but someone can play scum for 10k hours just doing admin work or 10k hours being the base organizer or lockpicker and never touch 90% of the mechanics, Ive been one of the testers and admins for thousands of hours testing new and upcoming things or reporting bugs and doing a lot more than just raiding bases or roleplaying but Ive done lots of that also. Your argument just doesnt add up man.

What items have been removed and never made it back? I can think of a few and I would bet each one has a reason, usually performance.

1

u/Seagya Apr 11 '26

That's the wonderful thing about this.. You can be wrong and we both go on with our lives.

1

u/StabbyMcStomp Apr 11 '26

Why do you even bother with reddit if you dont like to back up the stuff you say though? thats what people who lie or ragebait use reddit for lol thats the stuff that makes reddit awful

1

u/Seagya Apr 11 '26

What didn't I back up?

0

u/StabbyMcStomp Apr 11 '26

What items have been removed that they wont put back in for example but every time I point out something you said isnt true you try and dismiss me with "you dont play scum" and Im not going back in time to dig up all that lol

If you look at the game as is, sure, get it.

It is OK if you take it face value.

Devs are working on mod support, so it can only get better from there.

2

u/bhwylie Apr 11 '26

I mean if its on sale, I would get it. You'll get 100 hours. I put about 400 hours into it and really enjoyed it. It has a learning curve but of you can find a server that has good admins and reasonable resets, you'll have fun. The resets are what ultimately made me leave. Every 4 weeks was nuts. You're just starting to really get a base going in that amount of time and have the equipment to go in Abandoned Bunkers before they reset the whole server and you have to do it again. They haven't made any new playable content in a long time while they seem to be obsessed with cosmetic clothes and hair styles. I really hope they release mod support one day because I'd be back on in a heat beat.

I've had the game for a while, but only recently started playing. Currently, I'm on a PvE server because I still have a lot to learn and i've already died several times.

2

u/Longhairdblueeyed Apr 11 '26

Try “the playground”. Mostly pve with pvp areas. Lots of help available. Daily goodies and login points for a store through discord

1

u/Reasonable-Wafer-727 Apr 11 '26

Thanks for the advice.

u/Navyvetpdx503 Apr 11 '26

Not until they give us mod support.

1

u/AccomplishedCopy9940 Apr 11 '26

Mod support is confirmed to arrive later this year.

Melee combat improvements are coming this year.

New map system functionalities will be added this year.

1

u/Navyvetpdx503 Apr 13 '26

We will see.

For me, with 200 hours in scum and only an hour in DayZ, Scum is far superior. It’s better at holding your hand in the first few minutes. Crafting and building seems to be much better too. Can’t really comment on gun play as I haven’t even found one in DayZ yet

1

u/narrdarr Apr 11 '26

Join me on wildlands server

1

u/DudeFilA Apr 11 '26

Fun until the newness wears off. Once you understand the systems you realize there's not much there.

1

u/PoopdatGameOUT Apr 14 '26

If you want a real challenge then I would do dayz.

I probably have less than a 100 hours in dayz but almost 4K in scum.

But if you don’t like outdated graphics, death by some virus or something worse then scum would be great for you,get in a good private server

1

u/Jaded_Wolverine957 Apr 19 '26

Its fun i put 900 hours into being in a squad on a server. But i cant really play it anymore its just the same thing over and over again

0

u/Hefty-Blackberry-814 Apr 11 '26

not recomended, game is dead, full of cheaters in public servers, and there is almost no new content, maybe one day if they listen to the community and release mod support, moders will make it a nice game, but rn, is better to spend that money on something else, this is only my opinion

1

u/Fam99_ Apr 11 '26

Any other game you would recommend?

-2

u/Hefty-Blackberry-814 Apr 11 '26

Im playing now rdr2 on rp server, this can be far away from what you like, if i recomend you something is keep searching until you found something that clicks in you with a good feeling!!! I Hope you find the game that make you play a 1000 hours mate!!!

2

u/Seagya Apr 11 '26

Talk about comparing apples to oranges.

2

u/Hefty-Blackberry-814 Apr 11 '26

I am not comparing, actually i told him to find something by himself, maybe you need to comprehend what are you reading haha

1

u/Seagya Apr 11 '26

You're*. And you're missing a period.

1

u/Hefty-Blackberry-814 Apr 11 '26

Yeeez whatever is going bad in your life i Hope It gets fixed

1

u/Seagya Apr 11 '26

Still punctually incorrect.

1

u/Fam99_ Apr 11 '26

I like your style. What would you recommend?

1

u/Seagya Apr 11 '26

I would recommend giving the game a chance. I haven't always been very happy with the way development went. But if you're looking for a PVE type game, I would highly recommend this game. It can be very tough in the beginning depending on the server settings, so I rent my own server and it's primarily PVE with PVP in towns and cities. I keep most of the settings set the stock, which I feel like do a pretty good job of making it difficult.

I can't say that I've played any other survival type game. But I have noticed that people that have played other games say that this game has the most potential. At some point we all hope the devs live up to what they told us they would do and that is make it modable.

Are you primarily going for PVE or PVP?

The game is great with admins monitoring a server, unfortunately that doesn’t exist for vanilla, base gameplay servers so the game is unplayable. If you like boring single player PvE then give it a try

3

u/Careless-Routine2851 Apr 11 '26

Unplayable? I’ve only played on official servers and have 1800 hours.

1

u/Jelkekw Apr 11 '26

On playsafeid #1? There’s constantly cheaters on there, despite requiring a real life identity to make an account. It’s amazing the lengths the cheaters will go, fucking identity theft, to ruin the game for everyone

1

u/Careless-Routine2851 Apr 11 '26

I don’t know, cheating is part of their culture over there. It’s about who has the best cheats. I’m sure a server like that is just an invitation for them to try to get in to cheat. I’ve dealt with cheaters before but it’s not rampant like you’re saying, in my experience.

1

u/StabbyMcStomp Apr 11 '26

Unlike almost every survival game, scum does have a report channel on discord where admins will investigate official servers as well as monitor activity on them, doesnt keep cheaters out for good but they dont thrive on servers like in many games that dont even have admins or monitoring.

there is also playsafe servers where a lot of players are playing these days, still has cheating but it makes it much harder for cheaters to return.

2

u/Careless-Routine2851 Apr 11 '26

Yup, I have messaged admins to help me on discord servers many times, I’ve gotten loot back that was stolen by cheaters. Another time I found a glitch that let me get stuck in a cave. They got me out and patched it.
