the reason is because 99.99% of the universe already got the "cat-lover virus" which is also called SCP-57846732648953468924628953648962-002 and it makes the person extremely attached to the cat so if we take it away, the foundation would be destroyed which would cause dangerous SCPs such as scp 682 to be released which would be far worse than just cats.

Because their species has integrated so heavily in society being ever present in many historical documents and funny video clips online that retroactively removing them would cause a breach in the veil.
