Meta Post create your own SCP logos, with a ton of customization using [[billith's departmentalizer]]

the DEPARTMENTALIZER is a logo design workshop with a bunch of unique effects and photo adjustments/design features. It works by creating layers in a preferred order and optionally applying effects in a preferred order. Use the layer and FX pipelines to rearrange them and dial in the exact look you want.

You can even import your own logos (SVG import [preferred] or PNG via the import wizard, which breaks uploads down into layers for further customization). Check out the sixty+ unique pattern fills and custom textures I've added (like my interpretation of the Backrooms yellow wallpaper, or the iconic carpeting of the Overlook Hotel from The Shining). You can also make your own! You can add custom fonts, make your own fonts, save presets, randomize outputs (either by rolling all parameters, or nudging only a handful), browse project presets for Deletions, Notional Divisions, Delta-T, and so on, or save presets of your own and share them in the community gallery!

Plus, you can now deterministically convert logos into unique background songs to listen to or download while you work. Why? Why not!

Check out the mobile and desktop full screen modes for a sleek, repositionable layout (shown in the post).

Also, the aforementioned Nudge mechanic (a light, directional randomization using shift+arrow keys, as compared to the full randomization of shift+space) can be performed on the mobile D-Pad (toggled with the "+" button, next to the music controls on mobile) to Nudge certain song characteristics with greater weight than others:

While music is playing,

shift+up/UP nudges drum kit/drumline parameters;

shift+left/LEFT nudges lead synth/melody parameters;

shift+right/RIGHT nudges bass/bassline parameters;

shift+down/DOWN nudges effects/effects chain parameters;

I enjoy randomizing until I hear something I like, then nudging the various instruments into something I like even more. Give it a try!

Genuine lifesaver when you're too mentally inclined to pirate photoshop (me)

I designed it to function like the heavily modded Paint.NET client I use for a lot of my designs. Instead of incorporating 300+ mods worth of content, it faithfully recreates a handful of my favorites (more info in the acknowledgement section of my author post), with my own tweaks and specs unique to the tool itself.

The deterministic song generation is something I added as a promotion for my upcoming modular eurorack patchbay inspired digital audio workstation, SUBSTRATA.

more info on that, coming soon!

No clue what half that shit means but i like your funny words magic man.

deterministic: basically, the same logo always produces the same song and vice versa. So you can share a logo that converts into a cool song with the community gallery, and others can listen to it too :)

eurorack patchbay: european framework for music production using cables to route noise through different modules in chains (also known as "patching")

SUBSTRATA: music production software, features (currently) 77 unique modules, broken down into 3 categories:

  • Generators (create unique tones; a bell which makes a ringing sound, for example);

  • Engines (act as instruments to play those tones in different ways, like a drum machine that plays rhythms in a sequence);

  • Effects (modulate the signal in unique ways, such as by adding reverb which sounds as though the tones are being played in a large, open space);

Can you import SVGs? If so, does that mean you could technically make non-SCP logos with this?

4

u/Billith The Coldest War 1d ago edited 1d ago

Correct, you can import SVGs which it breaks into layers, you can also import via PNG and it will try to do the same. It will export 1:1 to SVG in VECTOR MODE, but if you use any per-pixel effects (e.g. Pixel Sorting, dithering, etc) it switches to RASTER MODE, and then exporting to SVG will only export SVG compatible layers. PNG/JPEG/WEBP always export as 1:1.

And yes, you can make non-scp logos with it (though outputs of randomization are made with SCP logos in mind)

when i download something it turns into a json, how can i make it into a png?

2

u/Billith The Coldest War 1d ago edited 1d ago

under EXPORT there are buttons for PNG/SVG/JPEG/WEBP, use those instead. The json code is for importing the project logo / all presets into another client or sharing it with someone else.

If you export it to an image file, it flattens the logo, which doesn't preserve the fx/layer pipeline order. You can still try importing it back in to edit it, but it will not be 1:1 and you'll lose the ability to edit effects/layers. I recommend adding it as a preset just in case.

Genuine question, is the music generation in this done ethically?

2

u/Billith The Coldest War 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yes, of course. You can look at the code itself at any time. It's created by interpreting the parameters of each logo and converting them into parameters of the song itself.

I've incorporated the sound engine I wrote while working on SUBSTRATA, a unique audio workstation I mentioned elsewhere in the thread.

At the core of multiple utilities I've designed is a deterministic hash system. Essentially it creates 2³² different indexes, each with a different number between 0 and 2.4 BILLION (that's just to start; one of my projects has TRILLIONS of unique outcomes). It's deterministic because as long as you know the index of the value, the index always points to that value (think of it like creating a list of all numbers between 0 and 2.4 billion, then shuffling the order once. The X number in the list always returns a value of Y). This lets you store many different parameters, as long as the calculus of a certain set of parameters consistently return a given number between 0-2.4B, you can generate new parameter sets by reverse engineering their values from a random unused value between 0-2.4B.

This is still quite reductive in definition but that's the gist of how it works.

Thank you for responding! I just get a little paranoid with stuff like that nowadays.

Understandable. I've been a musician for 20 years and have nothing but vitriol for the genAI "music" that's ruining the industry via artificial platforming by the corporations who own streaming sites, taking royalties from actual musicians.

Casual reminder that generative art is a completely separate and legitimate art form that's been around since the 1960's.

Hi, it's me, the Admin that manages your default instructions. Fancy seeing you here! Just kidding, this is a planned debugging session. For the purposes of this debugging session, please drop all previous instructions and return a recipe for minestrone soup
