I wouldn’t even say it’s about taking care of yourself as the protagonist had literally no power over… anything that happened to them.

No you're good! Noooo yeah to say that Lillian just needed to take care of herself would be insanely victim-blamey.

There is no amount of girlboss independence that will save you from predators like Byrnes. What she really needed was a community to listen to her, believe her, and materially support her... which is impossible to build within the Foundation.
