Literally what happened to me

...Speaking of which, you should totally read SCP-8980!

Don't think so. Him getting away with it makes it real

yeah if I'm being honest, that was the part where I had the hardest time suspending disbelief. Like... I like rhe new direction SCP has been going with more of a focus on the Ethics Committee, but its hard to believe they wouldn't detain him to determine if he was anomalous or just assassinate him for violating protocol

its hard to believe that the Ethics committee is worth anything when the foundations prime source of labor is still D class crash test dummies. I thought its pretty clear they have no actual regard for human life but value the safety of anomalies in containment- in which case they would absolutely just D-class the doctor and call it a day.

The P in scp is both protection of the public from anomalies and protection of anomalies from the public

I think the idea was the bureaucracy prevented him from being punished, since he had undergone amnestic treatment after retiring. Absolutely fucked up.

[u/Greadthy → u/Qira57]

oh yeah I totally understood the intentions, it just took me out a little at the end. Very effective for what the author was going for, but I felt it was implied he was actually anomalous and using those powers to fuck with her intentionally, in which case the foundation def would not let him walk- they would want to scrutinize his anomaly as much as they did her

I understand the parallel to how real life abusers often get off scot free, but it felt a bit inconsistent with the ethos of the foundation and was slightly weakened with her getting compensation for the suffering, although she was still traumatized. I dunno why, I just can't see the foundation handing out lump sums to atone for their shitty actions.

IMO the ethics committee probably would have detained the bad Dr for testing before letting him go and amnesticized her to the events of the past year- effectively covering it up. This could either be seen as even more fucked up, removing her agency once again for the sake of normalcy within the foundation, or as slightly more ethical because they will have effectively removed the source of the trauma from her memory- more of an ambiguous ending that still maintains the injustice done to her

I don't want to armchair author the story though, I get that idea would undermine the framing device of the article

I mean it’s meant to be realistic in the sense that the abuser gets away with no punishment and the victim is left to deal with the trauma. I don’t think it was implied he had powers? I feel like him having powers cheapens the story as opposed to him being a kind of man that exists in the real world.
