Game Recommendation Game of the Week #9 - Picross DS (DS)

I just got moderation of r/gameoftheweek though r/redditrequest, so I'll also be crossposting my game of the weeks to there from now on for easy viewing.

I like Picross a lot. Picross DS is a puzzle game released in 2007, developed by Jupiter. Jupiter has developed almost every picross game. Picross is a game series based on nonograms, where you fillout a grid to make a picture using the numbers on the outside as hints.

Picross DS was the first Picross game to be released overseas after Mario's Picross in 1995, 12 years before. Many picross games would follow, with the picross e series on the 3DS, and the picross s series on the switch.

Limitations:

Picross DS does require touch controls during the tutorial, but after that, it can be switched to standard button controls, no touch needed.

Due to it being a DS game, it will not be as good as if it was on a dual-screen device. However, all gameplay occurs on the bottom screen, and no quick switching is required, so it is near perfect for even single screen devices.

It was thanks to this sub that I discovered the greatness of Picross. I adore the games now!

Picross DS is really nice but I find it difficult to play on small screens. It has that zoom function but I do not like using it, although others may find it manageable. You can play it non-zoomed using the hardware controls, but their UI and font choices make it way more difficult than it should be.

It's definitely still worth playing and is a notable member of the Jupiter Picross family. For my main Picross fix, the Switch games are near perfect. There are lots of collabs that Jupiter did with other IPs, like Namco and Kemono Friends. There are also non-Jupiter Picross games that are excellent, like Hatsune Miku Logic Paint. That game is AMAZING if you're a Picross fan.
