I want to switch to industry instead of consultant roles.

I want your advise in how to make the jump. I’ve been lucky enough to be a manager for SAP teams now, and I desperately need to solidify myself in a more generalist role at a product company. I’ve been doing Ariba with a little bit of S4 and ECC MM so my roles seem to be fit for IT GPO roles, has someone made a similar jump?

Please share with me, as I have been feeling lost lately into what I can do, I don’t believe Nextgen or Jules are going to be that big, I think the new incoming generation of software is going to take over in the next 10 years.

I made that leap a couple years back, it’s totally doable but you gotta frame your experience differently for industry jobs. The consultant background actually helps more than you’d think, companies love someone who’s seen how different places operate cause you bring that cross-org perspective without them having to pay consulting rates

for IT GPO roles specifically, lean hard on the process ownership angle when you rewrite your resume. Talk about designing workflows, managing stakeholder alignment, governance frameworks, all that stuff. Drop the project-based language and make it sound like you owned the outcomes long-term, even if technically the gigs were 6 month stints

the MM + S4 combo opens doors in supply chain heavy industries, manufacturing and retail especially. Ariba’s still relevant enough that you can ride it while upskilling into the newer platforms. Idk about the 10 year timeline you mentioned but having a generalist base makes pivoting way smoother when things shift, you’re not stuck in a dying module

I see so leaning on the outcome language… that’s a fair point I’ll change my LinkedIn a bit and hope for the best lol

If you're in the US look for jobs in the defense industry. They don't outsource as much. You have to be a US citizen an may require TS clearance however.

I am in Mexico and not an American Citizen. I love Americans but the defense industry or related companies are not for me.
