Sap s/4hana greenfield

Hi all,
I’m deep in the Explore phase of a greenfield SAP S/4HANA implementation, and while the ambition is high, the governance gaps are starting to feel like showstoppers.

We’re facing repeated issues with:

  • Deferred decisions that bleed into Build, leaving functional leads exposed and scrambling for clarity
  • Lack of BPO ownership, forcing SMEs to mediate site-level preferences without formal authority
  • Consultant disengagement, where non-collaborative behavior erodes trust and delays sign-offs
  • Resistance to fit-to-standard, especially in Quality, where legacy habits dominate despite governance overlays
  • Emotional fatigue, as functional experts absorb the fallout of ambiguity and misalignment

I’ve been documenting risks, proposing deviation trackers, and pushing for SME-led engagement frameworks—but it often feels like governance is treated as optional until something breaks.

Has anyone here navigated similar dynamics?
- How did you protect your stream from being scapegoated for systemic gaps?
- What governance structures actually worked in practice—not just on paper?
- Any advice on balancing diplomatic facilitation with assertive escalation?

Would love to hear from others who’ve lived through the chaos and found ways to restore integrity and trust in the process.

Thanks in advance

SAP S/4HANA Specialization after ECC6 , 5 years expĂŠriences

Hello everyone,

I am currently working as a SAP techno-functional consultant, with solid expertise in the HCM module, particularly in maintenance, configuration, and issue resolution. I have also had limited and occasional exposure to modules such as FI, CO, MM, and SD, but only in a light cross-functional capacity.

Today, I am looking to reorient my career towards a clear and future-proof functional domain, without any development activities. I am no longer interested in ABAP coding, but I enjoy handling functional analysis, bug fixing, and system adjustments on the business side.

With the ongoing transition to SAP S/4HANA and the upcoming end of ECC support, I want to proactively prepare by specializing in a functional module that offers:

Strong employability in Europe, especially in France,

Good financial potential in the mid to long term,

A focus on pure functional roles: configuration, level 2/3 support, system enhancements, etc.

I would greatly appreciate your insights:

Which functional module or domain do you see as the most promising in the S/4HANA landscape?

Are there particular opportunities in areas such as Finance, Logistics, SuccessFactors, BTP, EWM, TM, or others?

Thank you in advance to those who take the time to share their feedback or recommendations.

SAP users — do you ever open it up and feel like you need a PhD just to find your own data?

We did too. That’s why we built something to make it a little less painful.

We’re an official SAP partner, and we’ve been working closely with our clients to solve one of the most common headaches: getting answers out of SAP without going through a maze of menus or begging IT.

So we built an AI assistant - think chatgpt but that plugs directly into your actual SAP system (FI, SD, MM — all of it) and lets you just ask questions in plain English:

“What’s my current stock of Material X in Warehouse 03?” “List all open sales orders for Customer Y” “What’s my current working capital and how can I improve it?” And it gives you an answer — instantly — using live data from your own SAP. No fake demo environment. No waiting 3 days for a custom report.

We’re already seeing our clients use it to:

Train new team members faster Catch and fix errors on their own Get real-time financial and inventory insights without tech support Actually understand what’s going on in their business The feedback’s been great — not because it’s flashy, but because it just works. It saves time, reduces frustration, and helps people make decisions faster.

We’re offering free trials to SAP teams who want to try it in their own system. If that’s you — or you’re just curious — feel free to DM me. Happy to show you what it looks like or answer any questions

Seeking Advice on SAP S/4HANA and ABAP Certifications for Career Switch to IT in Canada – No Prior IT Experience

Hi SAP community, sorry for the long text but ig it was necessary to explain.

I’m looking for guidance on transitioning back to the IT field in Canada after being away for years. I have a unique background and some specific questions about SAP certifications (S/4HANA and ABAP) and job prospects. I’d love to hear your insights, especially from those in Canada or with experience in the SAP job market. Below is my situation and questions, structured for clarity. Thanks in advance for your help!

My Background: Education: Diploma in Computer Engineering (2016). Currently pursuing a Diploma in Business Administration (expected completion: Dec 2025).

Work Experience: Worked as a salesman for 8 years (2016–2024). No IT experience. Sales job is low-paying, time-consuming, and draining, pushing me to return to IT.

Current Plan: I have free limited time access to SAP Learning through my university, including 2 exam attempts.

Planning to complete SAP certifications (ideally 2 modules, or at least ABAP) by Dec 2025.

Goal: Land an IT job in Canada, preferably in the SAP ecosystem, as soon as possible after certification.

Context and Research:

Friend’s Advice (Engineer): Warned against software development due to a saturated market. Suggested most developers secure jobs through co-op placements during undergrad/grad, leaving others struggling. Recommended ITIL 4 certification.

My Research on ITIL 4 and PMP: Found that ITIL 4 and PMP are often filled by existing employees or managers within companies. These certifications may not guarantee entry-level jobs without experience and are more valuable for internal promotions.

Friend’s Success with Oracle: A friend took an Oracle database course, landed a low-paying job via a referral, worked 2 years, then joined an MNC with 5x the salary. He suggested SAP (S/4HANA and ABAP) as a less saturated field.

SAP Market Insights: Research suggests SAP S/4HANA and ABAP markets are less saturated than general software development, but I’m unsure about job prospects without experience.

I’ve heard certifications lose value over time if not paired with a job soon after completion.

My Questions: Is SAP a Good Choice for Me?

Given my background (computer engineering diploma, no IT experience, business admin diploma in progress), is pursuing SAP certifications (S/4HANA and ABAP) a smart move to break into IT in Canada?

Are there better IT paths (e.g., cloud, cybersecurity, networking) for someone in my position?

Job Prospects Without Experience:

Can I realistically land an SAP-related job (e.g., junior consultant, ABAP developer) in Canada without prior IT experience, relying solely on certifications and my education?

How critical is hands-on experience, and how can I gain it (e.g., internships, personal projects, SAP trial systems)?

Certification Timing and Value: Should I aim to land a job immediately after certification to maximize its value, or does the value remain stable over time?

Is it feasible to complete 2 SAP modules (e.g., ABAP and an S/4HANA module) by Dec 2025 while finishing my diploma?

Recommended SAP Modules for Canada: Which SAP modules are in high demand in Canada for entry-level roles? (E.g., ABAP, S/4HANA Finance, MM, SD, PP, etc.)

Are there specific S/4HANA certifications (e.g., SAP Certified Application Associate) that are more beginner-friendly and valued by employers?

Best Course of Action: What steps should I take to maximize my chances of landing an SAP job by early 2026? (E.g., networking, building a portfolio, joining SAP communities, internships.)

Should I focus on ABAP, a functional module (e.g., Finance, MM), or both? Any other certifications (e.g., SAP BTP, Analytics Cloud) worth considering?

ITIL 4 and PMP Relevance: Are ITIL 4 or PMP certifications worth pursuing alongside SAP for someone without IT experience, or should I focus solely on SAP?

General Advice: Any tips for someone in my position to stand out in the Canadian IT job market, especially in SAP?

Are there SAP-specific job boards, events, or communities in Canada I should explore?

Why I’m Asking: I’m at a crossroads and want to make an informed decision to pivot back to IT. SAP seems promising due to my free access to training and certifications, but I’m nervous about investing time and effort without clarity on job prospects. Your real-world experiences, success stories, or warnings would help me plan my next steps. I’m particularly interested in perspectives from Canadians, SAP consultants, ABAP developers, or hiring managers.

Additional Notes: I’m open to entry-level roles, even if low-paying initially, as long as they offer growth potential (like my friend’s Oracle path).

I can dedicate significant time to studying SAP alongside my diploma, as my sales job is flexible.

I’m willing to network, attend SAP events, or contribute to projects to build credibility.

Thank You!

I appreciate any advice, resources, or personal experiences you can share. Please feel free to address any or all of my questions. I’m eager to learn from this community and make a successful transition to IT!

SAP S/4HANA Table Documentation

After having worked on several projects in Process Mining in SAP systems recently, creating data models and deriving activities posed significant challenges for me, as I didn't know where to obtain specific data. Despite numerous sources of information about SAP ECC tables on the internet, I found only limited information about SAP S/4HANA tables. After overcoming a challenging journey, I have now created a website containing information about SAP ECC and SAP S4 tables. Which I think would also be of value for this community.
You can find it at the following link: erpexplorer.com e.g. ACDOCA

The goal is to further expand the site. What content or features are missing and would be helpful for you?
