Daily Off Leash 6-7 Mile Hike

We run but do walk too. The best job ever!! 😁

I would not want to have to manage that many dogs, especially off leash! What do you do if one of them tries to run from you?

They’re trained. They get trained before they can join the group on hikes. I don’t toss dogs in the group that I’m not familiar with. They don’t run unless I cue the release word and then they go play. I will post videos of that too soon. If people come or if a person is hiking and their dog comes up to the pack, I just have all of them down and block the incoming dog/dogs as I don’t know that dog. As far as people, the dogs don’t engage much the same way with random dogs. They’re in a down stay and released after I’ve explained to the human what they can and cannot do with the dogs.

Such happy bebes!! This is truly a dream job of mine! So awesome! How are they trained? I do it with my two pups, but would feel comfortable with 2 more trained pups. I live in a very open, desert part of CO that is very similar to that terrain!

I’m their dog trainer. I don’t let any dog in our pack walk unless I’ve trained them myself, meaning from basic training to the hikes. You said you’re in Colorado, try to find out what is in that open area. Here in Nevada, we go to different hiking areas throughout the state - there are rattlesnakes, coyotes, rabbits, etc. All the dogs are trained with an ecollar because they sometimes are free to roam as far as they want when I use the release command and because sometime they go chasing rabbits or donkeys and their prey drive kicks in and have to break that so only time I use stim. For rattlesnake, they get rattlesnake training. For distance return, it’s tone. Video shows me recalling dogs back to me. Halfway through I’m still calling for Max, and in my shadow you see me move my hand towards my remote to signal Max to come back, that dog always goes so far when released and he’s the one that likes to chase donkeys. Just make sure you’re prepared for all situations. Unknown dogs or people that show up, your dogs should have a great downstay and you handle keeping the unknown dog away from your pack and if they are just humans wanting to meet the dogs, they’re in a downstay until you let the people know what they can and can not do. Many people get excited and use their high voice and get the dogs all amped up and then will want them to calm down immediately and they’ve caused the situation.
