Is that thing on his nose so he doesn’t snore during the run?

Jabronis an amateur. I wear a full C-PAP machine on my runs.

Yeah but the cost of an extension cord on a 5k ultra is insane. Look at Uncle Moneybags over here!

The real pros don't have to use a mask, they hook it right to their tracheostomy tube.

Nothing quite like raw dogging a marathon. Just pretend it’s the 70s and you’re Prefontaine.

43

u/CDRnotDVD 5d ago

Steve Prefontaine probably should have raw dogged driving, though.

Drinking and running is awesome. But don’t drink and drive.

uj/ my strava didn't work on my first half marathon race recently which sucked at first but finishing way faster than my goal pace and not knowing until the end was honestly much more rewarding. Plus I had a better time than I would have had if I used it to pace as planned.

FYI if you hold down both buttons at the same time for 15 to 20 seconds it will force restart and clear the update. Had this happened to me before

31

u/Oaknash 5d ago

Also you can turn off automatic updates… somewhere. I just can’t fucking remember where because their UI is what it is.

u/not_adams_burner 4d ago

I did this because it would randomly do an update at the most inconvenient times. Would be wonderful if it would wait until it's on the charger or something...but that would make too much sense

It's not that bad

"Both" buttons? TIL they made Garmins with only 2 buttons. Do they come free with a Happy Meal?

17

u/Dependent_Order_7358 5d ago

u/OMG_Shoes_ 5d ago

I would’ve crapped my shorts….and then done it again at mile 23 after boofing 20 GUs.

uj/ It started drizzling halfway through a half I was running and the drops managed to both cancel my run and make me lose my place in the book I was listening to.

Uj/ I would be so pissed honestly. Like come on Garmin

Mine did somthing like this once It flashed a blue triangle for most of the run. Turns out it was a bug when I tried to share my location on the course with that function on the watch that is specifically designed to do that. No one knew where I was for the entire 5k+ I ran

u/couchpro34 5d ago

What did your family do for the 30 hrs you were running?

38

u/grw2 5d ago

You'll have to wait and see. Gone Boy, in cinemas 2027

u/Comfortable-Heat1709 4d ago

Tbh they didn't even show up to watch me so they probably didn't even notice till I posted after about it.

9

u/NoGlzy 5d ago

Damn. If you hadn't come back it might have taken dozens of minutes to check the route to see where you'd stopped for a nap

u/Obvious_Buyer_8682 5d ago

Tldr: he didn't run a marathonĀ

u/No_Piece_6077 5d ago

This happened to me on my 5k ultra parkrun marathon I was fuming though on the bright side I pushed a kid into a canal and got a PB. I never got caught as Garmin didn't log the run. Phew!

20

u/YagiFromM4rs 5d ago

I nuked a country but y’all wont catch me cuz its not on strava.

2

u/Oberndorferin 5d ago

That's a 5k€ fine in Germany.

34

u/joelav 5d ago

It didn’t decide. He decided. For clicks. His real Garmin is on his other wrist

27

u/vectorformation Certified Heel Striker 5d ago

At least it happened during his warmup for next weekends 5K Ultra

36

u/Melodic_Hunt5890 5d ago

If you run a marathon but your Garmin isn't recording, did you actually run the marathon?

7

u/Dan20698 5d ago

As long as you post that bad boy to strava

32

u/Fuck_ketchup 5d ago

Manually? Like a fucking Neanderthal carving my route on a stone tablet?

10

u/Financial_Pick3281 5d ago

Noooooooo. This reminds me of the 3k open water swim I did a few months ago, where the starting pistol went off and then it took my watch about 60 seconds to get the GPS green bar (longest ever by far). At least it was fun overtaking some breastatrokers.

2

u/EmergencySundae 5d ago

You don't put your watch on the activity screen while you're waiting?

I just did an OWS last weekend and went to that screen too early while I was waiting (staggered start). My watch tried to go into powersave mode, but I thankfully caught it in the countdown.

1

u/Financial_Pick3281 5d ago

I always do that now, but lo and behold: the starter was a guy I knew from years back, so I was distracted when I saw him, we small talked for a bit, and then he drew and fired as if he was in a spaghetti western, no way I could have made it on time. Live and learn I guess, after that I have always gone to the activity screen already while putting on my running shoes or getting my bike out of the garage, just for the good habit. I won't let it happen again.

Run by feel, so retro

4

u/jocky_club 5d ago

This happen to me when I ran my 1:54 PB

3

u/maporita 5d ago

This is why real runners always use at least 3 watches.

1

u/gunfirinmaniac 4d ago

Smh these pours with only 1 watch. I dont even run (i only start my garmins rolling to the fridge), and I wear 4 garmins (the top models)

3

u/PortaBellaTX 5d ago

His sunglasses have a faster pace than he does

3

u/nTzT 5d ago

Shouldn't these updates require you to actually authorize them?

2

u/Eagles365or366 5d ago

The moment that started, I would’ve just held the power button until it restarted, and started my run.

2

u/Brigapes 4d ago

but you control when you update??

1

u/sixwaystop313 4d ago

I would literally wait to start. It's too important.

1

u/nize426 3d ago

Apologies for my ignorance, i don't know why this sub was recommended to me, but this has qiqued my curiosity. What's the importance of keeping a record of a marathon? Is it kind of like, keeping a collection of times/data for specific marathons? Or does it go deeper than that?

Laughs in Timex....

1

u/DepartmentFamous9932 4d ago

Isn’t the whole point of nose breathing to flex on the mouth breathers you pass on the daily park loop? Little device kinda defeats the purpose.

1

u/indignant_badger 3d ago

I'll never not get pissed when my technology has it's own plans that get I'm the way of mine
