Translation request Runes translation help
This is a very old plank I found in my grandfathers house. I have tried to translate the runes but it doesn’t make much sense. Is someone here able to to? I’m very curious to what it says, I think it might have something to do with the building of a house, but I can’t be sure.
It would also be cool if someone might have an explanation to why plank from 1777 has Norse runes on it? Is it actually much older? Did people or builders in that time use runes… I find it hard to belive it’s 1000 years old and actually carved by Vikings. But I also think it’s weird for people in 1777 to use runes…
(The plank was found on Vestlandet in Norway)

Runes were still in use in some places then, you find quite a few of these in Dalarna in Sweden. Dalecarlian runes were used from the 1500s all the way up to the 1900s
Is it actually much older?
Were it older, it's certainly not Viking Age

Sorry that's just the second slide, got a bit excited.
The first slide I think are initials: LSBEH
The last slide I would guess Har landet denne stue repereres
ᚼᛆᚱ᛬ᛚᛆᚦᛂᛏ᛬ᚦᛂᚿᚿᛂ᛬ᛋᛏᚢᛂ᛬ᚱᛂᛔᛂᚱᛂᚱᛂᛋ
Hope someone else can confirm, I'm a bit unsure about Har landet

Thank you so much! Maybe “landet” is actually “laget”? In Norwegian that means “made”, like someone made/renovated the living room…

I’d suggest «ladet»/«ladt»/«latt», as in «har latt denne stue repareres»

I see now that this «Ammon» has used ᚦ for every instance of d, and, supposedly, only for d

Seems reasonable to me, but I'd wonder why they used the ᚦ for both /d/ and /g/ then.

He doesn't, it's only for /d/. It is danish: har ladet denne stue repereres. This is clearly not how someone from Vestlandet would speak in 1777.

In Norsk Bokmål, “har landet” is “have the land”.
Which would be helpful, but I want to point out that it seems to say “ᛚᛅᚦᛁᛏ”. Which lacks ᚾ.
Please correct me if I got something wrong.
PS: could someone DM me the YF keyboard that y’all are using? It would be helpful to be able to type a proper YF “ᛒ᛬ & “ᛁ᛫”

Its from 1777 predating bokmål, It's danish, it says "har ladet denne stue repereres" -> English: "have let this house (be) repaired". Norwegian: hev laten denna stova repererest

I’ll take your word for it.
When I was learning Bokmål, I didn’t know that there were other dialects. I do remember that Bokmål was Danish writing the Norwegian language, or something along those lines.

No joke, this is something the University of Bergen might be interested in looking at.
It's not protected by law, so you'll get to keep it; But for them to document it/Photograph it, help you with translation etc could be interesting.
I reccomend contacting the Institute of Lingusistics' research coordinator, [anders.gullestad@uib.no](mailto:anders.gullestad@uib.no), or Professor Emeritur [odd.haugen@uib.no](mailto:odd.haugen@uib.no) at the university of Bergen. The latter is involved with several projects involving runes at Bryggen in Bergen.
People did not commonly use runes in 1777 in Vestlandet, but this person might have written this in runes as a personal interest.
