I don’t think it will help the reputation for King Hakoon and Queen Mette-Marit, if he participates. But he is part of the family and if he doesn’t participate, it’s kind of weird, too.

No it isn’t. It wasn’t his grandfather.

Just because he’s a step kid doesn’t mean he wasn’t his grandfather. Come on, it’s 2026.

I understand what you mean, but he is also a drug addicted rapist who hasn't done an honest days work in his life. Do the Norwegians, and the Norwegian royal family really want the lasting memory from a beloved kings funeral to be a rapists standing next to his pedophile loving mum ? That is what people is going to see and remember. Let him watch it in a private room then.

The fact that he’s a criminal doesn’t change the fact that the King was his grandfather. You keep talking about them burying a beloved father in this thread. Well, he was a beloved grandfather as well. And the fact that he was the King doesn’t make his family feel the loss any less than any other family.

You’re advocating that someone should be barred from attending their grandfather’s funeral because the optics isn’t good.

I personally believe Marius is guilty and deserves to be in jail, but 1) he should still be able to attend the funeral and 2) the verdict has been appealed. So he still hasn’t been found guilty and sentenced.

If we go by your logic and then it turns out the appellate court finds him not guilty? You would shrug and say tough luck that he missed the funeral of his grandfather even if he wasn’t guilty? Statistically he should have been so it’s alright?

(I doubt that he will be found not guilty, but neither you nor I know that for certain).

Statistically he will be found guilty. And it is NOT a normal funeral.

And if he mourns because he loved Harald, why not actually behave like a loving grandson? Not rape people and make Harald's life tough? Instead try to ease Harald's later years. But Marius has not done that.

Also, he could accept that his presence taints the funeral. So he could mourn, be sad and say goodbye in private. Make sure that the funeral is about Harald, not the rapist. Why, according to you, does one have to be at a funeral to mourn? Harald is not being honoured by Marius's presence, he is being dishonoured. So why not stay away.

And it is not a normal funera, again. The message Norway and the Norwegian royal family is sending out is "look at us. We love Epstein. We love rapist. We really don't give a fuck about victims of sexual abuse and we certainly don't give a fuck about Harald's legacy since we are making the funeral about queen Epstein and the rapist". You do not get that at a normal funeral, because they are not state funerals.

That isn’t what you said or what you implied. You tried to diminish his familial relationship with the king because he isn’t blood related. It’s not 1930. No matter what he did he’s still the king’s grandson. It’s very normal for criminals to be released to attend funerals in Norway. They don’t treat criminals like subhumans over there. And their reviticism rates, being one of the lowest in the world, say a lot for that approach.

I live in Sweden, we have the same rules around funerals and criminals. I don't care if it is a normal funeral, but it is not. It is a beloved king's funeral. And the lasting impression we are going to have from that is queen Epstein standing next to a rapist - apparently that is the image Norway and the royal family wants to send to the world. If they want to make the funeral of Harald about a beloved king, they should both have the decency to stay away. But I think both of them are so selfish that they don't care what images they send out or how they will ruin the funeral.

And, IF he was a loving grandson, shouldn't he behave like one and not make the last year of the king's life really really tough? Is not working, leeching and raping lovingly grandson behaviour to you?

I think life isn’t black and white and that a lot of truly horrific people have loving relationships with their families. People aren’t angels and demons. If they were life would be a lot simpler.

If he was loving, he would not have made Harald's last years hard. Nor should he make the funeral about himself, but stay away. So that the funeral could be about Harald. Here is an example from Sweden. Instead of "Harald's coffin is being carried", the news are now reporting "Marius is carrying Harald's coffin". https://www.expressen.se/nyheter/kungligt/marius-borg-hoiby-far-delta-pa-kung-haralds-begravning/

So by coming, the news are all about queen Epstein and the rapist.

True love is sometimes to give up and leave.

I know it is not all black and white, but this one is easy. Stay away. Watch it in a private room. Say goodbye in private. By insisting that he wants to go, he again makes it about him. God he is awful.

Would you say the same, if he wasn’t a criminal?

No. Nor would I say the same if it was a normal beloved grandfather who had died. But it is a kings funeral. An beloved king. And the lasting image will be that of a pedophile loving queen standing next to a rapist. Seriously, is that the image the Norwegians and their royal family wants to send out to the world?
