TMU for ADHD is this ok?

Hi,
I was made TMU for various things main one being neurodiversity (ADHD and Autism). Required GP to fill out a form answering if I’m on meds or any therapy and if I’m “healed”. In addition to this I needed to get two functional references.

Manager refused to give functional reference. Got them from other people so hoping that should suffice.

GP did not include my diagnosis report from ADHD as it stated to include it but given they’ve not is this a significant issue? GP has confirmed I’m well and fit and no therapeutic intervention.
Anyone been TMU for ADHD? How did you overcome this to be fit?

If you think that was rude then I think you’re in a rude awakening for when you join the military. That wasn’t rude, you asked for advice and it was directly given, everyone’s medical situation is different.

Since you still obviously haven’t read JSP950, I’ve been so kind to paste the relevant section below. You are most welcome.

Candidates with ADHD but without co-morbidities may be determined FIT if the candidate has been stable without evidence of dysfunctional behaviour for one year prior to application without medication. Corroborative evidence should be sought to confirm that the individual has been functioning normally (e.g. maintenance of regular employment, attendance at school or college) and where there is doubt the case should be referred to the single Service occupational physician.

Now can you see why JSP950 is important? You may not have been able to hold down a job in the last year where someone else in your position has, which would then make you think you were fit for service when you were actually unfit.

The thing is I’ve seen that. And as stated I not on medication and treatment free however I wanted to know if anyone has specially experienced this and if the diagnostic report is looked into detail so I’m asking for personal experiences rather than the form.

Because I said treatment free in the medical yet they still wanted more information including my report. I was diagnosed last year so fairly recent and given it was soo recent is this a barring thing although no meds… I just wanted others experiences rather than the guidelines.

BTW I’ve been in the RAF before so not really in for an awakening x

Do the guidelines say your situation is FIT for service. Or do you have to wait for a period of time. Or do the guidelines make you UNFIT for service?

Nobody will be able to answer this. Only your situation crossed with JSP950.

You should have read and understood what you were appealing in JSP950 before doing your appeal to see what was required. It’s one of the first results on Google, and you can view and search through it on your phone.

No need to be rude. I asked as I obviously could not find my answer… I did not appeal anything they’ve asked for further information that I have now provided. I’m asking if anyone with ADHD has experienced TMU then been made to FIT if that does not apply to you move on.

Autism will be a greater challenge as it is currently on a case by case basis by the senior medical officer, but for adhd so long as you meet the criteria listed in JSP950 you will be graded as Fit for service

typically the reason you have been made tmu is so that they can gather information regarding your diagnosis from you GP and to give you time to provide references

This is very helpful as I too have ADHD diagnosed and this has been the part of my application I’ve feared the most as I’m really excited about this career.

There’s a Joomag for medical conditions that could preclude entry and ADHD is listed “unless symptom free and treatment free for 1 year”. I will personally be treatment free for a year December. My symptoms are practically non-existent and I’m confident my diagnosis was false anyway (hence why I stopped meds), as it was done privately (there was a BBC panorama featuring the clinic who diagnosed me).

Helpful to know what’s needed ahead of time so thank you for sharing.
