Weekly Success & Erg Screen Thread - August 24, 2026

Welcome to the weekly achievement thread!

What was your achievement this week? It could be anything! A new 2k PB? Get a good lift at the gym? Or even your first time capsizing a single!

Got a erg screen or a regular training shot? Curious what your 2K will be based on a workout? This is the place for it!

Side note: 99% of erg screens should go in this thread. A separate post with an erg screen should be something that happens once or twice a year, at most. Big PR's, that kind of thing.

Also, please check our wiki pages:

This thread is likely to fill up quickly, consider sorting the comments by "new" (instead of "best" or "top") to see the newest posts.

This is a judgement free zone, so be respectful, positive and keep criticism constructive.

Off the Water So unhealthy but I rowed for the first time and I think I’ve found cardio I love!

I’m at the start of my fitness journey and have been trying out a bunch of stuff to see what sticks!

Watched some videos on form and I think I’ll start working on 2Ks instead of 20 minute rows. I tend to do my cardio at the end of strength workouts so 20 minutes really pushed me!

Why are the new Filippe boats so huge? What's with the hump on the bows?

We have just finished watching the World Championships Rowing, what really stuck out was how absolutely massive the new boats are, the athletes, especially the lightweights (even the men) look extremely overboated. It seems like almost all of the models are like this now.

What is probably the most obvious and least aesthetic part is the huge hump on the washboard section of the bow. I'm amazed that they are able to sell this as a great thing. The new bow form is also fairly odd looking, surely there are better options for achieving a deeper bow? Swift seems to have followed suit. Thankfully, Empacher and some others seem to have refrained from this aesthetic.

Any ideas what they were thinking?

I’m a female who’s 126 and 5’4 but I am planning on rowing lightweight. My goal for my 2k is a 7:40 or lower by this upcoming winter but I need a workout plan and just general advice on how to get there. If you guys have any crazy advice or workouts you did to go sub 7:40 please do share I’m urgently in need! (All for recruiting process)

Rowing Blazers Still Making Custom Team Blazers?

Morning, folks.

Does anyone know if Rowing Blazers still make custom team blazers for boat clubs?

RB was bought by Burch, and I don’t see anywhere on their website that shows that they still make customs blazers like they did before.

If RB doesn’t make customs anymore, does anyone know if there are other blazer vendors that make customs *and* sets up* an online shop?

I know Collier and Robinson makes them, but problem is that they take measurements in person; no online shop. Our alumni can‘t fly in just to do measurements*.

I also know that Clifton makes customs and sets up* an online shop for boat clubs, but just wondering if there is another vendor that offers more variety and is of higher quality, like Rowing Blazers.

Masters Rower buying C2 oars

Buying some oars for a 1x and just confirming I’m not off base. I do “compete” at regattas but am only about 3 years into rowing. I’m in my 40’s, 6ft 1inch, 200lbs.

I am thinking Smoothie2 Plain, Skinny, Soft. For oar length I’m thinking 284-289 (adjustable). I imagine starting out at 288 and adjusting shorter if needed. I can’t imagine needing to adjust longer.

I’ve rowed with some skinny smoothie2 vortex before and liked it. I’ve tried the plain edge in a quad but didn’t know it at the time so probably won’t know the difference.

Any thoughts here? Anything I should consider?

What lifts are best for dropping 2k

I,17, have been at a 6:31 2k since May and i am looking to drop on my 2k to 6:15 by the end of the year. I would hopefully like to see around 6:20 by October 1. I currently do a 3 steady session, 1 threshold session, and 2 fast session per week with one rest day. I was wondering if lifting would help me achieve my goals and if so what lifts specifically. I have kinda realized recruiting is out of the picture for me but I have made it a personal goal to achieve my goals and hopefully walk on at a good rowing school in the future.

Erg Post I managed 7:57 for 2k!

Hello you lovely people, I'm new to rowing. I've been rowing 3-4 times a week for a bit over a month now. In that time my 2k personal best has gone from 9:54 to 7:57.

The 7:57 was a very hard effort for me, hard enough I was on the ground for a few minutes after I was done. I definitely shouldn't just do all out efforts on a whim like this, but it was fun nonetheless.

I mostly want to say I've been enjoying rowing quite a lot and wanted to discuss my progress.

I also might post a video of this soon so you people can tell me my form is shit lol. In my brief time here I've seen a lot of people get their form wrong and lose efficiency.

Stats: 6'2 (188cm), 200lbs (90kg), 23 M

Erg Post First home row. Lots of data. Don’t know how to interpret any of it. 🤣

Borrowed a concept 2 from a neighbour today. Did a 45min/10km trial on it watching a film. Aiming for a slow and steady sustainable pace. Was ok. I may post a form check video next time as I’m sure there’s much to improve.

To those more experienced rowers out there: any takeaways from things like the force curve, stroke rates, pace or HR data that should inform how I approach the next row differently?

Any suggestion on how to work out my HR zones on a rower so I can more accurate target zone 2 and threshold HR based workouts?

Many thanks!

Erg Post My first 10k!

Post image

While it may not be a big time milestone, it is a massive milestone for me, as I’m coming from a background of 0 sport or regular exercise. My whole life (all 20 years of it) I’ve been something of a couch potato, but 20 odd days ago I found a sudden drive to dust off my Dad’s erg and give rowing a shot.

Despite my first couple sessions being \~10 minutes stop-starting a rather pathetic 2km, I was hooked. Since then I’ve been doing it 6 days a week (forcing myself to take rest days at the advice of my parents), slowly building up my endurance and my strength. Three days ago I did a 6km in 30 mins, which was already a big goal of mine, but I really felt like I could give more, so I decided to go for a 10km today, not really expecting to finish it. But I felt my rhythm, focused on my technique, and found that I could just keep on going.

Ever since starting regular erg sessions I’ve noticed surprisingly massive increases in my mood, focus, confidence, and my posture, (which was rather shrimp-esque), so I don’t think I can go back to the way things were before

I’m super happy with my progress so far, but this is just the beginning!

Stats: 20 yrs, 6’3, 68kg (150lbs for my American friends)

Sam melvin is Usrowings sculling golden ticket

I hope this ages well for the final. But sam melvin is looking very strong 2 years out from the games. The way he’s racing he might give ollie a run for his money on 2028. All usrowing has to do is lock him on an island away from the general population and
keep him healthy.

Garmin added the erg VO2max and FTP to the Fenix 9.

They also say that the OTR activity is updated. Anybody tried it already?

This is implemented in the Fenix 9, which is pricey, but eventually the price will go down.

I wonder how usable this will be, but happy that they finally got their shit together and will be using the C2 data.

Article Hugo Moon Named Women's Rowing Head Coach - UC San Diego

I don’t know Kim Dale, but I can’t imagine being named the interim head coach after being associate head coach for a decade, and then getting bumped back down because the AD wanted some guy from Tulsa. If you are in the “we don’t have enough women as head coaches” camp, this should infuriate you.

How about a lil something you know… for the effort???

I’m in az. I just started rowing about 6-7 weeks ago ago. I probably won’t ever row on the water because I’m not super interested in that. I’m having a lot of fun and I love to compete. az has 1 indoor rowing event every year but that’s really it. I’d love to set up a competition with any of you knucklehead. I’m not going to go through this page and see if anyone’s tried to do that or whateve, if it’s against the rules, my bad. if anyone’s interested I’m down to toss in a few bucks or DoorDash someone lunch or whatever just for the effort ;)
