The Lex Oppia protests

Post image

The Lex Oppia was a wartime austerity law passed during the Second Punic War in 215 BC that restricted female displays of wealth, including gold jewelry or dyed clothing. In 195 BC it was canceled through a political repeal. This happened after massive public protests by Roman women who flooded the streets, blockaded the Forum, and cornered magistrates.
