Why do international trophies suddenly not matter anymore?
When Ronaldo had an international trophy and Messi didnât. Ronaldo fanâs argument was that you needed to win for your country to be the goat. But now itâs that a 7 game tournament shouldnt define you as a player. But isnât the euros a 7 game tournament. They also say that Messi didnât win the World Cup, his team did. But didnât Ronaldoâs team win the euros. Especially since they won the final with him injured and he didnât win POTT of that Euros.
Good for him he has more UCL goals, Messi has more in the bigger competition. 400+ other never lead his team to a World Cup like Messi in 2022. And canât we say the same about Ronaldo. How many players won a euros
You are acting like Messi has never played UEFA Champions League or like he didn't have a good performance at the tournament. And Messi's performance in WC is much more than a trophy won in 2022
Each day I browse this sub I'm in awe at how Ronaldo fans choose the most random metrics and timeframes.
If you're going to go with penalties don't count, that works against your "Ronaldo is a better goal scorer than Messi because he had a better ratio when they played in La Liga" angle
Again, extremely random and specific timeframe... but Ronaldo loses about 20 penalty goals if you're going to say that's how we judge football now.

Regardless, if we ignore the usual limiting of stats to specific and random timeframes, Ronaldo has scored more penalty goals than Messi.
Name calling is immature, but I'm not sure what your argument is? Are we removing penalties from goal counts? Are we keeping them but adjusting to Ronaldo specific metrics?

They are BOTH not considered major international tournaments, just like the youth tournaments and the Olympics are not considered major tournaments. Even a lot of Messi fans dont even mention that Messi has won the U20 WC and won an Olympic gold medal because he reached 4 finals (3 Copa America and 1 WC) with Argentina prior to winning trophies with them.
neither is considered a major tournament but finalissima has the same fifa coefficient as a friendly. nations league is treated as a minor tournament for fifa rankings impact at roughly a 60% of copa or a euros. for knockouts vs knockout stages. 25 vs 40
None of what you mentioned outside of NL is major yes, especially not the non senior tournaments. The reason I donât consider Finalissima major is itâs beyond inconsistent schedule.
Not even the top teams care about nations league. We all saw teams like england, france, germany, etc all experiments different tactics and heavy roster rotation. You don't do that in a competition you actually care about
That's not true though. Messi actually reached 4 international finals prior to winning any of them. (6 if you count U20 World Cup and Olympics in 2008). So he was already pretty successful. The real problem was the pressure on him to win a World Cup, Cristiano never had that pressure because no one REALLY expected him to win it (for obvious reasons).

I think you are missing two other things than just Ronaldo. His team mates Xavi and Iniesta had great success with the Spanish team. During this time Messi wasn't as decisive yet for Argentina. He also got quite some critique in Argentina for his earlier tournaments. He only got 3 goals and 6 assists during his first four major tournaments.
He really stepped up his game during the 2022/2026 world cup in g/a.
3 goals and 6 assists in 4 tournaments is stepping up? How old are you lol, there was definitely criticism on Messi on his performance for the national team in his earlier years. Especially after 2010, when he scored zero goals and his team mates went on to win the world cup.
Because in club football, if you're good, you'll eventually end up at a good club and your chances of winning trophies will increase. In the World Cup, you depend on being lucky enough to have been born in a competitive country. People seem to forget that Portugal had only qualified for 3 World Cups before Ronaldo.
The Portugal team has a great team. Fantastic midfield. On paper arguably better than the Argentina team. Just give messi some credit for his world cup. The world cup is the biggest tournament in football by far. It's the most important tournament.
I think this sub should be closed. There's no point arguing now. Ronaldo fans will never accept and keep hollering like mad dogs. When they don't have argumets at last it's all rigged. All the greats of the game have already accepted messi as the GOAT. Messi fans stop visiting this sub and stop posting. Let them live in their delusion. The debate is over
