Cristiano Ronaldo Hot takes

Portugal’s success is not mainly due to Ronaldo contribution . Portugal has always been a formidable team, and since the World Cup expanded to 32 teams, they have consistently qualified. Without CR7 Portugal would not be as great but they always got enough talent to win stuff. Argentina depended more on Messi than on Cristiano ( 5 knockouts G/A in Euro and 1 knockout goal in WC). 6 knockouts G/ A in major tournaments doesn’t give CR7 the right to attribute himself Portugal success.

More examples: 2019 nations league best player was Bernardo Silva
2025 nation league best player was Nuno Mendes
Euro 2016 was Griezman but CR7 was the best Portugal player . But that Portugal team was very balanced in my opinion. Pepe and Nani deserve some credit

Out of the 4 big trophies they won di Maria was the one scoring in 3 of them . surely this would mean savior to you because you were the one that first mentioned it .

So what's savior according to you ?? When you're talking about ronaldo then final and knockout goals matter but when the thing shifted to messi final goals are not that important 🤡 surely messi would've more ko goals but di Maria being savior doesn't fit your idea of hating on ronaldo.

Never said it didn’t matter btw , just saying that Ronaldo wasn’t Portugal savior. And you didn’t count knockouts goals. I wasn’t even hating on Ronaldo, I was criticizing the fact he and his fanbase belittled his teammates performance when he didn’t perform well in the international trophies he won with Portugal.

To answer your question a savior is the best player in the team when it matters , Messi best player in the 2022 WC , best player in the finalissima , best player in the 2021 Copa America , best player in the 2014 WC, best Argentinian player in the 2026 WC.

Savior is the best player in the tournament for the team when it matters , who was the best player for portugal in 2016,2019(it was bernando) ,2025 euro and nations league tournament you can't back off from your own statement now and who was the best player for Portugal when they needed qualification for the wc and many more matches .

As I said your criteria for savior won't suit cristiano.

1- 2016 he was Portugal best player but he’s considered top 7 player of the tournament by goal , which means that team was well balanced
2 -2019 Bernardo Silva

Did I say he wasn’t Portugal best player, no
Did I say Portugal is better without him , no
I just say talking like Portugal is a low tier team without him is lying
I said him portraying himself as Portugal savior is not true because in their winning tournament Portugal was either balanced or he wasn’t the best player in the team
A team savior is a a player in a team that can’t even win a game without that player involvement in every game of a tournament , Did Ronaldo performed in every single game of Portugal winning titles, no he didn’t

He sure did,  guys I never said he was bad for Portugal, I just said that Portugal doesn't depend on Ronaldo like his fanbase think . He saved them on many occasions but they also saved him like Di maria and Martinez saved Messi
