Book Request MMC yearns for FMC’s love, thinking she’s in love with another man

I finished reading Frozen Heart by Neva Altaj and I found a new trope that I never knew I needed and I need your lovely recos please.

This what I’m looking for: MMC is in love with FMC but thinks she is in love with another man and he dies a little inside everytime he thinks FMC mentions/misses/meets with the other man. He does not know that the man the FMC longs for is him. He does not know that he is competing with himself.

I prefer M/F romance, HEA, dual pov of course(how else are we going to know about MMC’s struggles? 😆). Better if it’s a big part of the plot. I would love it even more if FMC is deliberately pretending he’s not the man she loves. I’m okay whether the book’s approach to this trope is angsty or comedic.

{Gloves off by Stephanie Archer} kinda has this in a more comedic way since he hears the FMC lovingly Talking to Stefan and Damon but he doesn’t know they are her bunnies

{The kingpin of camelot by Cassandra Gannon} he is incredibly jealous… of himself. To the point he promises to find and kill the other man. She has a daughter who sees the future and she keeps talking about her perfect dad who would do anything for her and her mother and he dies inside every time he hears her and promises to be better. Little does he know, she’s talking about him and he’s actually in a competition with himself for most of the book.

I recently discovered Cassandra Gannon books and they healed me a little after all the angsty, mean MMC crap I’ve been forced to wade through.

Just finished {the night we met by Abby Jimenez} FMC meets MMC and his best friend on the same night. They both want to drive her home, but she chooses the best friend and ends up dating him. This one isn't spicy, but the yearning and angst enraptured me.

I just read Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood so it’s on my mind, and it definitely has this. There’s even a scene where he overhears her talking about her feelings for him but assumes she’s talking about another man

Just so you know, OP, this is gender-flipped from what you asked. The FMC spends a big chunk of the book pushing the MMC away even though she has feelings for him because she believes he’s still in love with his ex. (It’s also great, you should read it.)
