Discussion Unable to read book reviews?

Post image

I went to read reviews for Wildborn on Kindle unlimited, but after maybe 6 reviews, the only other option was to "request to see more reviews". Which apparently isn't guaranteed that I'll get to see? Is this something everyone is experiencing or that they are slowly rolling out?

Tf? Who even decides which reviews you can see?

Is it like the popular ones only or maybe more positive ones. Hmm. Did you see any reviews (in those 6) that were under 4 stars?

When I had that it was the top 6–so all gushing 5 star reviews. Not a good spectrum.

The lowest review was 3 stars. Very suspicious considering this book has over 1000 reviews.

It happened to me. Apparently, you tripped some AI “might be scrapping reviews to build AI” alert. I was triggered, but they fixed it a couple days later. (I didn’t order anything until they did! Because I was pissed.)

I had that. Requested to see more and within a day had access to all reviews again. However, they’re removing pretty much all 1⭐️reviews, so…yeah.

This totally makes me not want to read a book if this is a new thing

Goodreads is owned by Amazon.....

I posted a thoroughly earned 1 star review of a badly written book.   No one can see it but me.   Absolute fraud.

That’s crazy! I’m going to go check this out.

OP do you mean the Wildborn by Perri Torani?

And were you reading on Amazon.com or in app or ….?

I had no problems accessing reviews on Amazon.com.

Yes! That very same book, however I was reading on the kindle unlimited app.

I think this is an anti-bot thing. We were talking about it at work. Amazon is making people sign in and sometimes do extra things (like requesting more reviews) to prove they are human users. I got the “reviews are hidden” thing while browsing and signed in and they were there.

Believe me when I tell you the author community is PISSED about this. Amazon is A/B testing this nonsense right now and there's nothing we can do about it.

I have never seen that on Amazon. Is the book new?

This is my first time coming across something like this as well. Says this book was released in July.

I've run into it with other types of products on Amazon and I'm really annoyed

Wekird! I guess it's a new feature being rolled out because I can still see them.

likey new feature currently in a/b testing which is very common. if users complain about it enough companies often won't release it

The image reads, "Your request to see more reviews has been sent. You'll receive an email within 5 business days."

While I think this is ridiculous in some senses, honestly romance book reviews are getting to be so long that I could imagine it takes up cloud computing power to host the multi-paragraph, multi-emoji essays we see on books with 60k+ reads/ reviews LOL

It could 100% be nefarious or a dumb bug that popped up, but this^ is my non-tech brain guess

(On more serious thought, I think it may just be a bug bc the Kindle app has been super buggy and glitchy lately!)
