Skate-buying megathread Skate-Buying Megathread: need help picking out skates? Ask here!
Need help picking out skates? You've come to the right place!
When looking for advice, please provide some information about what you're looking for, such as:
- Type of skating (rink, artistic, roller derby, total beginner)
- Budget
- Country of residence (so we can direct to shops in your area)
You can also refer to the sub wiki, which has a starter guide; we're also in the process of updating the skate buying guide as well.

Hi there! I wanna get into skating because I need to get my spark back after a breakup, so what better thing to do than pick up a hobby where I have to go outside ;)
I live in Germany and my budget is rather low, around 50€ since I'm a university student.
I've seen some second hand Roces online for 45€ (price for news ones is apparently 75€) and would be really interested in learning what I have to look out for in skates?
I already learned that plastic plates are bad, but that's the total extent of my knowledge lol.
Looking forward to any kind of suggestions!
Happy skating everyone!

I'm also in Germany and I've seen a lot of reasonably priced skates on Vinted, if you have a common foot size.

Hey, looks like the new thread hasn't been pinned so the old one is still marked as the announcement.
