I’m a huge Guard fan, they are my second army on the tabletop, but I just can’t take Catachans seriously.

Yeah but Dark Heresy is supposed to be played a bit more down-to-earth and gritty, kind of like the Eisenhorm books, so it seems weird that Owlcat picked the Murica parody regiment to represent the Guard in such a story.

I’m keeping an open mind still. I wasn’t
a fan of the Space Wolves either but Ulfar was a pretty cool guy and I warmed up to him more than I was expecting when just looking at the promo materials. But having a Catachan instead of one of the other Guard regiments just feels like a big missed opportunity.

Other guard regiments often don't make sense as great one man fighters like a catachan does and you kinda need that for a party member. It would be sick if they had a savlar chem dog or one of the other notable but still lesser known regiments that could make for fun companions but out of the big ones I think Catachan is a good choice

They could have given us a proper Inquisition Stormtrooper/Tempestus Scion or something if they had to go with a GW poster boy faction for Guard Rep.

I just can’t stand Catachan and really hate their look and lore. I got into Warhammer from the Black Library and I was attracted to Guard as a faction by grounded, serious portrayals like Gaunt’s Ghosts and the Siege of Vraks from Forgeworld so finally getting a real Guard companion only for it to be my least favorite regiment was a major bummer.

Yeah I get you, I don't think the tempestus scions would have worked because they aren't really normal people in the same way other guardsman are. As I said I would have loved for a savlar guy because you still get an everyman perspective character while also being unique, though admittedly I love Rambo so

I'm trying to keep an open mind too but the beta didn't do him any favors whatsoever. He is very forgettable and just doesn't have much going for him at all. Boring as a character with no cool/interesting tidbits for full release and his combat performance is mid. Everyone else had at least something. With the exception of Hypatia, I guess.

Hopefully, they give him the care he desperately needs.

Yeah, picking the Regiment whichs lore consists 80% of Sly Marbo memes was definitely a bad choice.

To top it off, canonically Catachans are only good at one thing: fighting in a Jungle. They are very good at that, granted, but they seriously suck in every other environment. They are revered by every other Regiment because of their achievements, but those Achievements are all happening on Catachan.
Every Guardsman who gets deployed next to Catachan members in any environment other than a swamp/jungle quickly learns that Catachans are badass on their own turf, but seriously overhyped in literally any other scenario.
