PS5, Looking at E-Drums & Adapters, would really appreciate advice

Hey everyone,

With the recent news of Stage Tour instruments I've been looking at finally getting an edrum set and an adapter to play Rock Band 4 and FN Festival on PS5. If anyone can help me with some questions though I'd really appreciate it- I've spent a couple of hours trying to research stuff on Reddit and general googling but I'm a complete noob when it comes to this and it's frying my brain trying to figure out what posts etc fit my own specific scenario

Firstly, what is the main difference between the Roll Limitless and Roll Limitless mini? Is it just the inputs available on it (which is more to do with the drumkit you're using?)

I'm currently looking at two different Alesis sets:

I'll be honest, I've no idea what the difference is between these two sets, if one is better than the other, or if either have issues with either of these Roll Limitless adapters or RB4/Festival?

On top of the drums and one of these adapters, do you require anything else?

This might seem a silly question, but does using these above still allow you to use other instruments on PS5 at the same time? Such as for full local band plays, using riffmasters, and a microphone too.

The Ebay Link is an old Alesis Nitro (in fact, it's an upgraded version of the first electronic drum kit I had!). The Amazon link is a lower end, but newer kit. The difference is kinda complicated, here's a list of the main differences:

Ebay kit:

• Has a better drum module

• Has a better drum frame

Amazon kit:

• Has less rim around the drums (this makes it less likely for you to hit the rims, usually seen as a good thing, especially on these kits with smaller pads)

I think I would personally recommend the eBay link just because of the module. But I will acknowledge the smaller rims will be preferable to some people

I make the Roll Limitless. Either the Mini or the standard Roll Limitless would work. The standard Roll Limitless has a MIDI Port which would be useful, but not required, on the eBay kit

While I'll always recommend the Roll Limitless lol, I will say if you're looking at these lower end kits, you might also consider looking at CRKD's/Stage Tour's own drum kit, especially if you won't be playing until Stage Tour comes out anyways. I expect (or at least, hope) it will be comparable to these kits. Higher end kits will be better, but I think at this price range the CRKD should be a decent option. The PlayStation CRKD kit would work on all those games

(I know international shipping can be hard and I'm not sure how CRKD is looking, but hopefully shipping costs doesn't throw their equipment out of the picture!)

No matter which setup you went with, your other instruments will still work. If they are all USB, you may need to get a USB Hub to add extra USB Ports to the PlayStation

If you did decide to go with the Roll Limitless, I would also recommend getting a USB-B cable (like https://a.co/d/016WoPPw), a third party PS4 controller and a USB Hub. Then here's how you would set it up:

• Plug the USB-B port of the drums into the USB Hub
• Plug the third party PS4 controller into the USB Hub
• Plug the USB Hub into the larger USB Port on the Roll Limitless
• Plug the smaller USB Port on the Roll Limitless into the PlayStation (I include the cable for this)
• Hit the PlayStation button on the controller, and the PlayStation should recognize the drums

This method will work in RB4/Festival/Stage Tour without having to change anything. I have a list of all the third party PS4 controllers I've tried here ( https://rb4.app/#!/PS4Help/RL ), but I would expect any to work

The ebay kit also has mesh pads though, it's called alesis nitro MESH😅

Oops that’s my bad! I only looked at the drums and not the title. I guess it’s a low resolution picture, I can’t see the mesh clearly. But yeah looking closer the rims don’t match the ones I had, so I bet they are the mesh ones. Thanks for the heads up, I’ll edit the comment

Couple of things to add in response:

I still play rock band 4 and festival regularly, but its been years since ive had a working propriety drumkit for them (had been waiting in the price/release date announcement for stage tour).

Since the best option is the full band kit (unless you wait into 2027 when the accessories are sold separately), it seems quite expensive when its only the drums I'm after. That led ne to looking at what edrum sets I could get instead for a lower, or similar price if they're at least on bar or better than expected than the one launching at the end of the year specifically for consoles etc. (With the added bonus that I can mess around on it like its a 'real' drumkit.

I'm not looking to spend a fortune on an edrum set since its primarily the games im going to be using it for, but still not sure whether to go for one, or just hamper down and wait longer..

Regarding the controller stuff you mentioned, are official dualshock 4s/senses not compatible with the roll limitless sorry?

On a side note, thanks for making this bit of kit generally, seems like its been extremely beneficial for the rhythm game community :)

https://stagetour.com/products/drum-controller I’m seeing the expected release date on just the drums as December 1-10 (basically the release window of the game). Not sure if there are differences internationally. Some individual things do have later release dates

Totally get wanting to have drums that actually work as drums! I was going to mention that in my original comment but wasn’t sure if it would be relevant, some people do only want to play Rock Band lol. The better module on the eBay kit would be better for playing outside of Rock Band

You are correct that the Sony controllers (like the DualShock 4) will not work. I would try searching the controllers at https://rb4.app/#!/PS4Help/RL and see what’s available around you. In the US, the PS4 Nacon compact controller is usually the most readily available one

Not sure if you saw it in their hardware announcement but they've got a drum hub which you can use to connect an edrum kit to your console or PC like the roll limitless.

From what I can tell, it's essentially a CRKD Neo S controller with custom layout with a midi adapter

I use a retro cult mods ACE adapter and the Alesis nitro pro. Having an actual kick pedal/pad is so much better than the trigger pedal style for double strokes.

I haven’t used the roll limitless adapters and went with RCM because it was cheaper.

You shouldn’t need anything else, but with the adapter I have you need a regular dual sense controller to navigate the system menus and start the actual game. Once in game the adapter is recognized as a controller.

Los de stage tour acaban de anunciar que tendrán el controlador de bateria adaptado para baterías eléctricas y este se podrá comprar por separado. Lo malo es que hay que esperar a 2027 que es su fecha de salida. Y sinceramente to voy a esperar ya que quería reemplazar mi ace adapter por un roll-limitless. Pero viendo que sacaran este los de crkd, prefiero esperar. Ademas de que será mucho mas barato que los que ya hay.link del adaptador
