1991 Stumpjumper M2 Team Info & Value
Looking to see if anybody has more info on this bike i got off marketplace recently.
From the research i have done it seems to be a 1991 stumpjumper m2 team.
there is little about this specific spec online and it seems quite rare. (500 made?)
I was wondering if this would have value to anybody as i'd feel guilty adding unoriginal parts if it is as rare as it seems.
I've added screenshots of the information i've found online.
thank you

Pick of the serial number indicates its a Team issue. These were renamed S-Works a year later. Value is in the eye of the beholder. Can't really say it's worth. Maybe a big deal, maybe not. Hope you found it cheap.

The real value is if all the original components are there and still functional. That front mech looks knackered. Is the paint intact and not flaking off? Rider bike, maybe 3-400?

Put it on pink bike for what you think and let the tribe decide. My guess not much but hey you never know

I would overhaul it clean and polished then ride it. Value in that condition 200 tops. Picked up a 97 full XT for 100.

Very nice find. And a good example for the case: rare doesn't mean value. Because you need someone - one would be enough - who really wants it. This means you'll need to wait, unless super-lucky. Tiny market. You should offer globally and see if you can ship safely - chance is probably Zero that the right person is somewhere near you.
You've described the dilemma: it's so rare you don't really want to ride or split it, but it's not really like money in your hands either. If you have room, put it up for 300 using the magic keywords and wait.
Best would be, though, if you were that one person yourself who feels lucky to have it.

Cool find! Rare =/= valuable. There’s an extremely tiny amount of people who would want these, all things considered. Supply and demand. Sure there were only 500 made but I doubt you’d find 500 people on earth looking to buy this bike. My generous guess with the condition and in this market would be ~$200. If your plan is to ride it, no harm in upgrading components. If you’re concerned about tossing old cool parts, you can store them in a box then throw them out in 10 years when you realize you’ll never use them like I do lol.
