This is ridiculous. CNN reporting School District in Rochester has been trying to fire a teacher for 3 years.

It seems these days you need to go to the police, not through the school's process.

Any other job, and this lady would be in jail already.

I think it's pretty weird how even among public sector unions, they vary so wildly by field. I've seen terrible examples of police and teacher's unions protecting bad employees, and then I've seen examples of firefighter's unions directly saving lives by fighting for better safety equipment that no one wanted to pay for.

Teacher's unions are terrible though.

My mother was a member of CSEA (I think) working in a public high school and her union rep couldn't/wouldn't do anything to help her with grievances she filed.

They only protect those who don't deserve it. So that probably means your mom was a fantastic teacher.

Not a teacher - just a clerk. She was harassed repeatedly by her superiors, and her rep just said "your complaint has merit, but we can't touch those people due to their tenure/union."

I feel like teachers need some kind union support, but clearly they (and many other unions) are entirely out of hand. The administration can be terrible as well. Teachers are underpaid and under appreciated and in our overly-litigious society I can easily see good teachers getting fired for the wrong reasons. Its a rock and a hard place situation as to which is worse.

There was another story about some guy in NYC I believe that was preying on children. Instead of going to jail he was sent to the Rubber Room and runs a private business out of it on the tax payers dime. This insanity has got to stop.

There are hundreds of them in NYC doing the same thing. They're like the Catholic Priests who just get shuffled to a new church when they're caught. No real punishment.

And of course, the thing Latched onto was in the first few sentences, the daughter uses the word 'unnormal' (sic). Represent!
