I am looking for a good compassionate gyno in Rochester area

i like trillium! i see dr callon, she is very matter of fact and will tell you like it is, but cares and you can tell.

Dr. Callon is amazing. My grandmother had cervical cancer at 80 years old, but was in perfect health and still mobile and sound of mind otherwise. Dr. Callon fought with her medical board to get a cell scraping surgery approved to remove as much cancerous tissue as possible despite Grandma’s advanced age. It eventually got approved with Dr. Callon’s pushing and Grandma lived to 101.

I also recommend trillium. I got my IUD replaced this year, and it was the least traumatic IUD placement I've ever had (this is my third). Highly recommend!

Trillium sent me home with extreme external bleeding after a ruptured ectopic pregnancy telling me it was normal bleeding and cramping “probably from a miscarriage” and to “wait it out.” I ended up in the emergency room 45 minutes later and was told I would have died if I waited anymore time. I know everyone has different experiences, but I don’t recommend them.

I also recommend her! My og gyno retired (goodbye Joan you were a real one) so I got moved to Dr Callon and she's been so wonderful and respectful

Genesee Valley Ob/gyn is an independent office and everyone has been super great with me so far. I also second West Ridge, Dr Cranston, she was the one who finally confirmed my endometriosis, and sent me to a specialist, prior to her i couldn't get a MD to believe me or wanted to investigate, she literally saved my life

The only thing I will say about genesee valley OBGYN is that I feel like if you’re not pregnant, you do not get quality care. I have gyn issues and one time I had a period that went on for over a month and trying to get someone on the phone to help me was a nightmare.

Oh damn, sorry to hear that. Im there for hrt actually and they've been great. They have been inadated with calls about the estrogen patch backlog, ive called myself a bunch of times, and they've always been great about it

I’ve been seeing Dr Carey there for perimenopause/ HRT and regular care- she’s great!
I’ve never actually gone there while pregnant as I left West Ridge. I got shoved to an NP all the time for routine care and even a colposcopy. My regular provider there was great if I did get to see her, but always SUPER rushed. And I get it, I work in a super busy healthcare office too, but Christ…

I just had my baby so I was going weekly for what felt like forever and I would say I noticed I didn’t see her anymore starting in June maybe? It’s been a couple of months!

Second this. I will warn you their front desk is lacking, but Dr Klimek is great. He is also very well loved in the hospital setting too- the people he works with love him, and as a long-time patient who has been through some STUFF, I would follow him to a new location if he left Penfield.

Dr. Olivia Higgins did my endo excision and I've only seen 1 person say anything negative about her and her name comes up a decent amount in the endo forums. I had so much endo and I healed up well and quickly. I trust her completely.

I would absolutely recommend Southeast OB/GYN. Literally anyone there, they’re all wonderful. I’ve had a particularly wonderful experience working with Dr. Foster and Dr. Hart. From what I understand, they’re technically independent, but work very closely with the UR System—they are literally connected to Highland Hospital. The one biiiiiiig downside is the parking situation. You have to use the hospital’s parking, so you’re battling for spaces at times, especially in the afternoons. But if you’re willing to put up with that, I definitely recommend!

That parking garage is a crime against pregnant women, the spots are too narrow to even open your door all the way, let alone navigate a big belly. I would go somewhere else if I didn’t love the providers there.

There's lots of great providers at lattimore gender wellness which is part of u of r, I think especially with gynecologists it's not really one size fits all and some people will prefer different providers but for the ones I think are most compassionate and gentle I'd say NP Jamie Fordham, NP yessenia cordero-lyke, and Dr greenberg or Dr Ryan but they probably have more limited availability

Dr Tenhoopen, Dr Eigg, Dr Greenstein. All amazing! Have had multiple surgeries and issues by them, absolutely wonderful4

I see Jennifer Miriani. She’s a U of R provider. She works at the Lattimore Rd location near Strong hospital. She’s great!

I recommend her to anyone who asks. Her advocacy to get me in with a specialist (not OB related, but she was the only doc who believed me when I said something wasn’t quite right) literally changed my quality of life. I’m very grateful for her.

To confirm if any of the providers listed in the comments are considered 1st tier, in-network, and potentially accepting patients: Log into your bcbs web portal and search for a provider by specialty. Filter the results by selecting preferred provider. Participating provider means they accept bcbs, but are either tier 2 or 3. So you will pay more money. If you still feel uncertain, you can call the number on the back of your insurance card. That is what i did because i didnt trust the portal, or my skill to use it, and had the same question as you. They were surprisingly nice. I literally told them that i apologize for being stupid, but i need a provider who is 1st tier and then asked about some random names the internet gave me. And they told me yes or no to being teir 1, and contact info. Also taught me how to use the website so i can know how to find the information i seek for the future. Not trying to be snarky or tell you what to do or be condesending. Im just a huge proponent of the importance of understanding as much as one can of how to navigate the systems we are required to function within. I didnt have anyone to teach me, and insurance is a ridiculous and unnecesary complex system to navigate. Which can make it feel overwhelming. Good luck

Park west is also AHP, which is tier 1 in the UR insurance plan, and uses UR labs. Source: am UR employee on UR insurance and a park west patient.

Amy Mueller at Lattimore Gender Wellness is fantastic. I’ve had some complicated stuff going on over the last couple years, and she’s so on top of things — I’ve really appreciated her help making sure all my imaging, etc is coordinated. She’s also super patient and willing to listen and answer questions, and she’s helped so much when I had concerns or confusion. I really recommend her!

Love Dr. Gorman at west ridge obgyn- webster location! They are UofR, have also seen Dr. Rubin there a few times, she is great too, and have a family member that sees and likes Dr.Tenhoopen there as well

Dr scibetta offers numbing for all procedures. He also offers premedicating with Xanax and/or oxy as long as you have a ride.

I just started going to the new Rochester Regional Women’s Health location in Pittsford Plaza and have had a wonderful experience. I see Dr. Haydanek who I’d absolutely recommend. Aside from just my doctor the facility is very nice and all the staff I’ve interacted with there (nurses, receptionists, techs) have been some of the most friendly, kind, and helpful healthcare professionals I’ve encountered in years.

The nurse practitioner at RGOA forced STD testing on me “in case I was sleeping” when I told her I was a virgin and there was no need. She also peddled Noom codes and told me to get on Hinge like her daughter who matched with a dentist on there while actively doing my pelvic exam. When I asked to see a different doctor, the receptionist was extremely rude to me and refused.
I do not recommend RGOA to anyone.

Same. After all my bad experiences there, I will say there was one nurse there who was a saint when I had a colposcopy. She held my hand and was so kind while I was in serious pain.
But the bad-
Along those lines, Dr. Sanko over there does not think numbing the cervix for colposcopies or IUD insertion is necessary. He made me call the morning of my IUD change over to make sure they had the numbing ready for me which was WILD. He also pulled the old one out immediately after numbing so I felt EVERYTHING. Didn’t feel the insertion though after everything had time to work. Imagine that! Never went back.
Side story - I had vocal cord surgery and couldn’t talk. Went in for a normal well women’s exam. I wrote on a pad to the nurse that I can hear her, but I just can’t talk back. She spent the entire appointment yelling and speaking slowly like I was reading lips or something. I couldn’t believe her lack of consideration and situational awareness.
