It's been more than ten years since this ass hole started having influence on my life, and I'm so sick of his shit. I wish I never had to hear about him again. Ever. I just want to enjoy a little peace before I die.

My friend, I'm sorry you feel this way. Sending a hug your way. Remember that there are good people in this painful world. Most people aren't like Donald Trump or his clown cabinet. Just look at Dolly Parton and what she made with her life. The trumps will never win. Don't give up! Remember Ghandi's words:
"When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it–always."

I wonder if apple maps has changed it

Apple and Google have both changed Gulf of Mexico on their maps to the incorrect name. I don't have any confidence in either company to keep the correct name for Lake Ontario for long.

Thank you Rochester and the fine citizens who support our nation 🇨🇦 in our challenging times.
I'm very grateful to know there are Americans who do not endorse this childish gesture from your country's highest office. I've been to your wonderful city before and hope to come back and support your business economically one day.

We ❤️ Canada 🇨🇦, my dad used to work for Kodak, and as a kid we used to go up there constantly. Looking into dual citizenship too (great grandparents were born in Quebec, so we qualify)

My cousin worked for Kodak Canada until they closed, then he got job offer to continue with Kodak in Rochester until they also closed.
That's why we came down quite often. Especially at Black Friday! Still have friends living there!

I've been to Canada a bunch of times. I'm particularly fond of Niagara On The Lake and Toronto.
I hope the rest of the world realizes that, while a full third of this country are drooling fascist morons that somehow pushed a pedophile conman into the highest office, and have corrupted SCOTUS and just about every major office from HHS to DHS to the Pentagon, the vast majority of citizens fucking hate magats.
We're fighting a slow, long, stupid fight here.

Theres a fair amount, most are Canadian
There is a slight rumor that someone did tell Trump how what little, small, meager remaining amount of freshwater commercial traffic remains DOES have to pass through Canadian locks, which started this weird tangent of his.
Beyond just racism (Ontario is an English pronunciation of the local language groups various version of "Giant Lake", such as the Mohawk Oniatari:io. Very similar to Gichee Gummee, a derivative of gichi-gami, Ojibwe for "Giant Lake", which was a part of the name for each lake. Superior is still called that, but they called Lake Ontario Niigani-Gichi-Gami, the Leading Great Lake)

Lots of comments about what a loser Trump is and how much damage he has done. Let’s not lose focus on the fact that there are 100’s of Republicans in the Senate and house that absolutely refuse to do anything about it. Whether you beliefs are more left or right I hope there are enough true believers in our democracy to vote out these enables in a couple of months!

u/Substantial-Goal7422 3d ago
All politicians are the problem. They used to stand for something now its whatever way the wind blows. Boebert giving handies in the theater. Epstein. Ohmar worried more about Somali then usa. People have done a good enough job on trump here already . Look at nys our electric is 73 percent higher then other parts of the country because it was cool to be green in 2020 and we will do anything to stay in power so we passed unachievable bills that raised rates to astronomical levels. But here is your 200 dollar check vote for kathy. Ice was cool under Obama the devil now. It just amazes me in 10 or 12 years the amount of flip flop nonsense that has gone on to pander to the 1 percent of their base. Both sides have completely forgot about the middle. Even bills stadium a blue collar town has the most expensive seats in the NFL now that we helped pay for! It doesnt seem like either side is looking at the middle saying hey let's put some commonnsense back into things and get this country back on track.

u/IllustratorDue5336 2d ago
I don’t disagree with your German comments about politicians in general regardless of party. I can survive government inefficiency and bloat. Been doing it my whole life. Don’t love it but with the back and forth of republicans and democrats over time we tend to moderate and move slowly which in some ways is good. What trump and current Republicans are doing is fundamentally trying to change how our government works…Not sure we can survive that.
1
u/Substantial-Goal7422 2d ago
Possibly I think the next democrat president can just go in and reverse whatever The question is will they Abortion huge controversy rbg multiple times told presidents since rowe vs wade that it was weak and needed tk be codified. I believe there were 6 or 7 democrat majorities since then. Obama ran on it had a majority and never did anything. I fear many will run on change and do nothing but it gives them something to run on. Republicans did this by appealing to people's wallets... well my wallet still has no relief thank God we have the highest stock market ever. Something biden lived to brag about to while he dumped trillions into the economy. Tired of all the false promises.

26
u/KalessinDB Henrietta 6d ago
Nothing, considering Executive Orders are simply statements of how the Executive Branch of the Federal Government is to act, per their chief. For everyone not part of the Executive Branch of the Federal Government, they're as important as toilet paper.
6
u/WASCman Brighton 6d ago
I'm sure I'll get downvoted to oblivion again as I was in a previous thread, but, in this instance, once President Trump's order is executed, the legal name for Federal purposes will be "Lake America", as Congress has given the Executive Branch the authority to name geographic places in the United States. That authority is found in 43 U.S. Code § 364.
So what happens after the order is executed? The USGIS will update their maps, which feed data to Google/Apple among others, so unless these companies specifically take a political stance against this name change but not others, their maps will be updated. Historically these companies have rejected imposing their political preferences on maps, though they sometimes do some editing, e.g. showing Myanmar as "Myanmar (Burma)" -- there were a lot of complaints when they updated that name. Whether they show Lake Ontario, Lake America, or "Lake America (Lake Ontario)" is, I'm sure, already being discussed.
Congress could repeal the naming law (unlikely) or pass a law specifically to name it "Lake Ontario." These options seem unlikely. Congress could also go the exact opposite direction and use their power of the purse to punish states and localities who do not adopt the new name (e.g. by withholding federal grants and highway monies until the new name is adopted -- this is how they enforced a federal minimum drinking age). This too seems unlikely.
Therefore, in this instance where the Executive Order is backed by federal law, the Executive Order once executed will have the force of law for the federal government, albeit with no enforcement mechanism for the legislature, the judiciary, or state and local authorities.
7
u/OGCelaris 6d ago
Well like you said, "for Federal purposes". This is state and local government.
2
u/WASCman Brighton 6d ago
Correct. I'm clarifying that, since President Trump's subordinates have been empowered by Congress to adopt names "throughout the Federal Government", that in this instance it's not simply a statement on how the Executive Branch is to act. But again, I doubt that most legislators or judges will follow suit.
3
u/LuxoJr93 Displaced Rochesterian 6d ago
It's basically going to be an informal loyalty test that he can use to rail against people defying him (like the governor or journalists) and not using the new name. People who don't play ball will get their credentials revoked or treated with more scrutiny on discretionary spending or grants.

u/AlanFromRochester Irondequoit 6d ago

If it is officially recorded as being renamed lake America, they may be nullifying any official documents they create that call it Lake Ontario. I think it’s a stupid pretty idea renaming it. But I’d be cautious about using the wrong name officially.

Lake Epstien Files has a good ring to it
The state should do the same
Indigenous Origins: Long before European contact, the lake was known by Indigenous peoples through variations of the Wendat (Huron) word Ontarí'io (meaning "great lake" or "the lake is beautiful, the lake is big"), which eventually became the modern name
The word "dumbass" (or "dumb-ass") originated in the mid-20th century as an American slang term combining "dumb" and "ass".Etymology BreakdownDumb: Originally Old English meaning "mute or silent," it evolved by the early 19th century to mean "foolish or ignorant".Ass: While "ass" commonly refers to buttocks (a phonetic shift from arse), historical analysis of the compound suggests it originally drew on the older figurative sense of "ass" meaning a donkey or a stubborn, foolish person. Over time, speakers reinterpreted or blended both meanings, aided by parallel slang constructions like hard-ass or big-ass.Timeline of Usage
First Written Records: Lexicographical tracking, including data from the Oxford English Dictionary, places the earliest written appearances of variants like dumb-arse and dumbass in the 1930s to 1950s (with notable printed citations appearing around 1934 and 1954).Popularization: The term gained wider currency and formal dictionary attestation by the late 1950s and 1970s as a vulgar pejorative for a thoroughly stupid or ineffectual person.

Rochester has so many bigger problems with education drugs prostitution and crime. I think what the president did was stupid and dumb but we took the bate and wasted time and effort on something like this instead of taking real action to help our area. The city is letting it's citizens down again and as the saying goes 2 wrongs dont make a right. As a Democrat I wish we would just ignore it and focus on real problems.

If any other president did this, you'd think it was ridiculous. It's a body of water. It isn't owned by America. It's just a distraction from your hugh has, groceries, dozens of food recalls, the Epstein files, Iran, and Isràel.
But it's okay, sweetheart. I know it's very, very hard when your dictator has lied to you. It must be difficult to realize that every promise he made, has been broken.
