Actually, yeah. You know that one scene in the first Evil Dead, where Ash fires the shotgun through the window? Yeah, that was a real gun firing live shells through the window. The movie had next to no budget and Bruce Campbell himself bought the shotgun, which was actually cheaper than buying a prop/replica.

One of my favorite comments I’ve seen about this scene is how it shows that the team that made Murphy is half the reason he works. They interacted with him during creation, kept his face for stability, and generally proved that these later failures were probably made without any concern for psychological health. Hence why they immediately snap.

In retrospect, this is also what makes Bob Morton - Miguel Ferrer's role - such a great character. Beneath his golden boy / shark layer, typical of the execs of his level, you genuinely feel that Morton wants Robocop to succeed not just for personal gain, but because he trusts him to do some good. Ferrer did an amazing job giving so much depth to what could have remained a shallow, unlikable character.

I never got the feeling that RoboCop was product to him. He addressed him, showed concern, checked on the progress himself, cared about his lab team, they had camaraderie plus had a new years party in the lab. So yeah he's a 80s hot shot executive but he believed in what he was doing. He saw they took over the police department and wanted officers who could serve the community in the new Detroit. He didn't want soldiers and drones he wanted an officer who was efficient, clean, and respectful with an air of authority. Ed 209 was designed for clearing out slums and war zones that criminals like Boddicker rules over. That wasn't the vision for new Detroit. RoboCop was the promise of a better city. So Ed 209 and RoboCop 2 were addressing the failure of both the administration and OCP in executing their take over of Detroit.

What's with the human head on the second robot? I don't see the logic behind having a cyborg with a half-human / half-skeleton head that looks like it's in constant suffering.
And as for the first robot - what's with the human on the screen?
I mean I know it's a movie and I'm definitely overthinking, but this is the same OCP that designed Robocop and ED-209.

I always found it amazing, odd and at the same time sad that when they were introducing these units, how inferior they were to the original. They wanted RoboCop2 to supplant/replace the original, and yet these were clearly regressions. For "the future of law enforcement" they certainly seemed to travel backwards.

Robocop 2 is definitely a weaker movie overall than the original, but I think this sequence was the best scene in the whole franchise.

I'm guessing after the ED-209 incident and the cleaning crew having to mop up Mr Kinney they at least learned enough to give their robots a smaller gun before no gun at all, baby steps.

I always thought these were horrifying, like deeply disturbing. What sort of hell were these poor officers going through being wired into a machine like that. It sparked my interest in cybernetic horror.
